![]() Hey Guys,
I just had my car dyno'd a few days ago, my goal was to make a good/quick responsive turbo street car. Please see the mods below: S14 SR20DET Kouki Motor GT28RS Turbo HKS Step 2 Cams 256in/264ex HKS Step 2 Valve Springs HKS RAS HKS 555cc Injectors Peak Performance Retainers Apexi Metal Head Gasket 1.1mm Z32 MAF Apexi Power FC Tomei Expreme Exhaust Manifold Tomei Expreme Elbow GReddy Down Pipe 3" Test Pipe 3" Stock Bottom End Motor. Car was on the DynoJet and she put down 303 rwhp and 293 rwtq, with only 14-15 psi boost on 92 pump gas. (we're also at a higher elevation level, Calgary, Canada). I was expecting a little higher, around the 320 whp range... My question is are these numbers normal? or should i expect a little more out of this setup? Thanks, Steve. |

Is it a .64 or .86 a/r?
Either way, the gt2871r guys you see making 400 whp are on 20+ psi You have a slightly thicker headgasket, turn the boost up to 18 psi. I might have went with a 264/264 cam setup.

It probably should had been a little higher power wise but not bad still. Throw in some higher ocatane bump up the boost and see what type of numbers you will get with that.

I made 330hp on a dyno dynamics
S13 sr stock bottom end, fresh head (new everything) gt28rs @ 15psi hks step 1 264 freddy intake mani tomei expreme enthalpy tune greddy pulleys Unorthodox crank pulley spec flywheel 1 piece aluminum driveshaft ![]() Couldnt hold 18psi to redline, boost kept dropping off, but you can see it made about 20 more tq and the power came on a bit faster in the midrange. |

Get JWT Ecu and S3 cams
Make 330-340 at the same boost. Other than that, good stuff. I love the Spud.

28rs is same as an s15 turbo yes? s15 turbo's i've seen 280rwhp consistently at about 17-18psi, so the head flow because of the cams is probably what put you over 300. sounds about right to me. 28/71r is a bit better but don't upgrade to that if you're not satisfied, go 30r is my advice. i think you did pretty well man. to be honest....300rwhp feels the same as 400. and 300rwhp you should be in the mid 12's. go pwn a rich guy in a viper hahah. congrats man =]

the gt28rs isn't the same as the s15 turbo, the gt28rs is the disco potato or some shit. The gt28r is the s15 turbo, and its limitations are around 280-300whp approx 16-18 psi max. How do you figure 300hp feels the same as 400hp? |

gt28rs (disco potato) wont really make over 325-330 thats its limit.
its considerably smaller than a 2871R - its a 2860RS - s15 turbo is a little smaller - 2861R

Hey Guys,
thanks for all the postive input, I just wish I hit the nice 310-320 whp number. I double checked my boost control setup and it was set at 14.5 psi. Mind you I do have a thicker head gasket (lower'd compression a little) which allows me to increase boost a little more **safely. Statik, i'm impressed with your numbers, just wish I could attain the same whp at 15 psi. Then again this is just a GT28RS turbo (spud), which I really like. I'll try increasing the boost upto 16-17 psi and see how she does on the dyno which i'll do next year. I'm parking the car during the winter anyways; Calgary has some harsh winters. The car was tuned with Apexi Power FC by a really good tuner here in Calgary who is also a legit HKS pro dealer/tuner, we used the Power FC Data Logger and Software/Laptop (which belongs to a friend of mine). I'll post up my Dyno chart later tonight for you guys to view, hopefully get more postive feedback. Steve O. |

it doesn't feel much different to me. simple as that. when finally made 300, i thought to myself "this feels fast as shit" then i got used to it. so i upgraded the turbo, made 441 "this feels fast as shit" then got used to it. so again i'm upgrading the turbo. this process may never end but as i said. 300 doesn't feel that different from 400.

but good ifyou dont have enough cash to get a standalone and cover the tunning too. (JWT is very expensive for the little involved in their basic tune)

You will never get codyace to back down on the JWT thing, I am going enthalpy on my gti-r motor with the spud and s3m cams and some ~550cc inj. we'll see codyace. It will take time though

my friend insany on tuesday,bone stock s13 sr20det with gt28/71r = 220rwhp@ 4 psi...
looking at your graph @ djcobra your turbo starts spoolin hard at 3k, but hits full boost @ 4k....says it's 2 cents, then walks out the door at 4800, by the time you hit 6800, all the fun is over. hmmm http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...U_L8R/dyno.jpg my RB25 , gt30/71r red = 13-14psi, blue = 20psi 93 octane 3.54 diff, pink = old tune 4.11 diff gt30/71r on a 2.5L /w stock head/cams @ 13-14psi powerfc vs 28rs on a 2.0L @ 14-15 safc2 ....close comparison or no? in regards to turbo lag, overall powerband , etc i will say though, being able to adjust timing definately helps. safc is ok, but powerband kicks ass with stand alone. there are things like safc2 or a generic "this is my mods i'll send u my ecu, you tune it, i'll put it back in the car" that will get you by, but if you want the most out of your car's potential, stand alone is where it's at. and once you know what you want, and know your power goal, spending money on a good turbo is well worth it. just my .02 Dave =]

Then you don't know if it was faster. JWT has an 850cc program? I think I may need to call them about that, when I get my water injection and launch control questions answerd as well (Oh yea, sorry, my lame JWT has both those options as well). Money's not an issue, trust me. I went with what would be better for a daily driven, daily beat on, HPDE, Drag race turbo car. I've been in Standalone cars. They may make MORE hp, but IMO at the cost of some of nice drivability that the stock ECU provides. I'm not building a race car, so no need for race car parts. And, as with all JWT ECU's, you can simply datalog a run, send the information out to JWT, and they'll gladly mail you a new chip for you to install (while at the same time returning your old one). It's always easier to bash something you're ignorant about. Has JWT ever blown up a car either? And sorry, Power Fc isn't much better IMO as a standalone. Haltech, etc etc is a standalone. Quote:

Tuning? It's a daughter board and rom tune. Both shops have spent countless hours dyno testing, creating parts, dynoing again, building motors etc etc, and are confident enough to release a rom tune. They are all MAF cars, so it's not rocket science to get them to work.

#1Did you dyno the two? Did you drag race the two to compare ET/Trap speed? #2JWT has an 850cc program? I think I may need to call them about that, #3 Has JWT ever blown up a car either? #4 Pop chargers are noted for making HP on N/A cars. Dyno proven. Going to continue?=QUOTE] question#1 yes I also did do some street pulls, (no dyno) and its obvious, i know how fast my car feels, and when plugging in a new computer, all of a sudden my car is faster, hmm...maybe it makes sense to say it runs better with the new one??? dont need to be a tech to tell the difference. question#2 they took my injector did a flow test and made a program for me. cost $30 to flow test, and another $700+ or- for tune. question#3 but yes JWt was the cause for my engine being blown, ..according to 2 different shops, it was running too rich/knocking question #4...lol... if you read my post I stated"LOL" which = it was a joke. i just named that because JWT offeres that on their website so maybe they did too, I do hear a lot of good things about enthalpy though. You are right about making changes on curent tune setup,(even though they do charge $100) anyways, i didnt say they were shit, i said i prefered the power fc, as most people on the forum too,
