I have a question regarding swapping an S14 VLSD into an S13... I tried searching here and on fresh alloy but can't find a clear answer after looking through pages and pages of results. i want to be 100% sure of this before spending the money so please don't flame. from what i understand these are the EXACT same VLSDs and can be swapped without worrying about gear ratios, flanges, output shafts, driveshaft lenghts, etc. am i correct in assuming swapping an S14 VLSD into an S13 would be as much of a bolton as using an S13 VLSD? i know about the 3/4 inch driveshaft discrepency due to the ABS sensor but that supposedly is not a problem. thanks in advance

Morgan

EDIT:  another reason i am not so sure on them being the same unit is due to the fact that while searching on www.car-parts.com if does not list the S14 units as being compatible with my 93.

Direct, well, no.

The rear cover needs to be swapped from your old diff.  Easy.

Other issue, the S14 diffs mount to the subframe at the front via bushings while the S13 diffs mount solidly.  For a proper fit you have to replace the bushings with something solid.

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">just make sure you get the full pumpking w/ the side shafts (output shafts) in it still. just so you take out your old one put this one in and done in a coupe hours.</td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'>
alright i'm a little confused... &nbsp;by looking at the service manual i have it appears to be easier to replace just the pumpkin rather than the pumpkin along with the halfshafts? <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'> &nbsp;Don't the S13 VLSD pumpkins use the same halfshafts as the non-VLSD ones? &nbsp; If anyone has done this swap your input would be great. &nbsp; Thanks

Morgan

P.S. - i'm asking this because it is much cheaper for me to get just the pumpkin for an S13 rather than the whole assembly

the halfshafts (axles) are the same, but the output shafts aren't.

If I may borrow this photo from importnut:

This is an output shaft. &nbsp; The splined end fits into the diff, the 6-bolt flanged end bolts to the halfshaft.

The VLSD uses slightly shorter/different output shafts.
