Unhappy drunk driving accident

earlier last night my s13 coupe was parked outside of wendy's while me and the gf went in to grab a bite. after we finished eating i look outside see that cruisers are swarming over my car. upon closer inspection i see that a white rav4 had crashed into my passenger side. i walk up to the fucker that hit me and see that he's passed out and leaning over his passenger seat. the cops at the scene tell me that there was a needle stuck on his neck and he was reeking of booze.

my red coupe is no longer immaculate and that mother f**ker is GG. he's alive but hes good gamed.

the cops tell me that they have filed a report and to just take down his plate and call them to get the info on everything.

so what happens now? do i still have to file a police report even though i wasn't in the car? will i be covered by his insurance or the insurance of the owner of the car? also, if the body damage is greater than the value of the car and it is considered "junked", how do i go about getting the damages fixed instead of taking whatever money they throw at me? any help would be greatly appreciated guys.

i just hope that this shit works out and i get the damages fixed.

dam that sucks, i kinda know what u feel, back in Feb a 87 year old lady ran a red light and turned into me when i had a green going 40mph , she basicly hit me head on , I had a 89 s13.5 and i resently invested 800 bux getting legaly on the road , it riped the hole front end off my car and twisted the fram , It would have cost 10,000 to get it fixed back to OEM s13 , but the car was blue booked at 2,500 for being a 89 and having 194,000 on the odom. Basicly i got screwed over and only got 3,000 out of it. Im sure you will get money , if it cost more to fix than what the car is work they will consider it totaled and give u blue book , If its less they fix it, You can allways buy the car back if Totaled , I could have gotten mine back for 70 doller but who want s a recked and i living in a Apt in LA wtf, So my advice if u live in a house and and you get money for your car buy it back and buy a nother s13 and just swap over parts, My friend did the same with his integra, some chik cut him off when he was speeding and he slid under her left side bumper and pushed in his right finder and cracked his window, he got 5,000 for his car bought it back for 1,000 and still have basicly a good car with a smashed finder and a jdm moter, just do that dont fix it if its bad , in the long run its just not worth it... good luck

yeah man, this shit has happened to me before and i had to junk the car because they gave so little back. car was driveable but too messed up to drive.

the coupe has a big fat dent right behind the rear passenger side wheel. the damages span from the gas tank door all the way down. his car bumber cleared the rear wheel thank god. crossing my fingers now and hoping that body work will cost about 2k so i can fix the damaged goods.

wow that sucks. Sorry but that is a terrible location for body work. no bolt on panels to replace = expensive. Look at your book value and in general they won't pay more than 75% of the value to fix it. It might be worth it to buy it back and part it out. Just in the motor and 5 speed swap parts you can get 500-700.

Be thankful you and your gf weren't in the car when the jackass crashed. A car can be replaced. Lives, spinal disks and other body parts cannot.

My car got hit in broad daylight on Lombard (a very busy street) and the dickfour drove off, so at least you have someone to file a claim against.

Sorry to hear about this, I know the feeling. It'll all work out in the end.

ok here's the deal

since the cops filed a report already. this is what you do if you have info on the idiot that hit you. file a report to your insurance not the police. once its filed your insurance will take care of the rest.

resulting the idiot's insurance company will send you a check and for the damages that he's done to your car.

of course make sure to add how, this incident has caused you mental strain and you are slightly traumatized and possibly wont ever be able to get in a vehicle again.scared of the possibility of you being in the car when a lunatic decides to destroy it..lol........
and you will get the extra pocket $$$

by the way, if your insurance company totals your car, tell them you want to keep it and they will give you the money minus about $600 bucks which is what the junk yard would pay for it.
then you have cash for a new one, and still have all the parts to transfer into it, or you can have a dd and a track car(the salveged one)

If the insurance company totals the car out, tell them you want to buy the salvage rights back. When my first S13 got totalled, they gave me 6k minus 500 dollars for the car. Then you can tow it back to your house and part it out or fix it, whatever you want to do with it.

Edit: Just realized I just repeated what he said ^^ sorry.

That is realistically about 1000-1600 in damages at a body shop. If your car is a 91-93 and in good shape it is pretty likely an insurance company will repair that without totalling the car. A 89-90, I'm not too sure...

hey that damage isn't TOO bad. i would just bash it out myself, and get some overfenders/wheels/suspension with the check you get from the insurance company. why pay all that money for bodywork and still be stuck in offroad status while you can get the above stated upgrades.

Dang that sucks. Luckily you werent in the car. My friend got basically T-boned on his motorcycle by an old lady. The lady who hit him was pulling out of her driveway didnt see him and hit him ran back in her house and didnt call the police. Left him on the road in pain and he had to call 911 from the ground. He got $20 per day that his bike was in the shop + they paid for his repairs+ his medical bills+ pain and suffering( told them he might not be able to ride a bike again).

Having had my S14 totalled earlier this year by a drunk driver, I know your pain. Sorry to hear about your misfortune and I hope you're compensated well.

The damage itself isn't too bad, so at least you'll be able to keep your car.

Good luck!

i think i'm gonna tackle the body work on my own once the new england weather lets up. rockin the dent for now and saving the insurance money for a swap at DSG. thanks for all the kind words and recommendations guys. really appreciate it.

all insurance and money crap aside, looking back i'm glad my girlfriend and i werent in the car. and as weird as this sounds i was glad they resuscitated the drunk driver and made sure he was alright. a car is a car. damages can be fixed.

lesson learned: don't f*n drink and drive. or stick needles into your neck and drive for that matter.

your car is gonna get totaled for sure. i would buy it back from them for like $300 and even tho its a salvage now i would bang it out/put wide fenders like everyone said.

same shit happened to me in my 89 hatch.

some old geezer hit me though. it was barely totaled. they estimated $1600 of damage (front passenger fender/bumper). They gave me a check of $2,000 but it was 3 damn months later. Be sure to keep pressure on the insurance company, or else you will be waiting a damn long time. I ended up keeping the car with the front damage and buying an sr with the 2k. My friend has a fender that I can have and it will look the same as before hahahah.
