4.36 r&p and high hp?
alot of people seem to really like the 4.36 r&p and i am considering replacing my 3.9(j30 diff) with the 4.36, but i am not sure if those gears will be to high(numarically) for my setup. my s13 is currently at 404 whp/348tq and is used mainly for steet driving with a little bit of drag strip and road course driving(basically an allround setup).
will the 4.36 be to high and just cause traction issues(doing more harm than good)? any opinions form people running 4.36 r&p with ~350hp would be good too. current rear tires: sumatumo(sp?) hrzII's 245/40/16, however i am looking at going to a 17 inch wheels with azeni rt-615 soon. thanks, aaron

4.36 isnt that crazy high at all.
I am running it and can still hit about 130+ in 4th gear. It's nice for exit accelerations in 2nd. although kind of drift happy with 400whp

sounds good then, i bought a diff with 4.36 gears. i use a greddy electronic boost controler so i have a 12psi (~320whp) and 18psi(400whp) settings. i think i am going to get the remote switch so i can easily switch between the low boost setting for first and second and high boost for third and up.
i think this should work well. http://projectnissan.com/shopping/pc...&idproduct=261 thanks for the replies.

This applys for drifting and circuit, def not for drag.
Main reason why you should consider doing 4.3 or 4.6 swap is your turbo and powerband. I would also consider you skill level as well, and the speeds at the track you goto. For the guys with bigger turbo making 350+ hp, 4.3 will keep your revs in the sweet spot when you shift between 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. Your 1st gear will be useless with 4.3 and 4.6. For the guys drifting in 3rd and 4th gear will notice a big difference. If you have a t28, gt-ss, anything making less than 320hp, keep your stock final gear. You won't benefit from it. |
