Those 315's on a stock fender is nuts.
I was just about to try and fit something at least 295 all around on the evo but now that 315 tire has me thinking.

Someone needs to post up Sasha's setup, here goes. His racecar was 18x9.5 RPF1 front with 275/35/18 RA1 and 18x10.5 rear with 305/35/18. Not sure on offsets, check ziptied if you really want to know. Worked well for his endurance racing purposes. I'm assuming since he recently parted the car out and was selling lots of damaged body parts that it got crashed.
![]() ![]() Full Race/Brady time attack S14: 17x9 +17 MB Weapons, 275/40/17 slicks all around ![]() My car: 17x9 +17 MB Weapons, 245/40/17 Kumho MX all around, rolled fenders, car a little bit too low for my tastes so I have some rubbing up front at full lock. I want something like Sasha's setup next with some used R comps. I got this current setup because it was cheap and a sure thing as far as fitment goes. ![]() Last edited by turtl631; 12-06-2007 at 05:05 PM.. Reason: To edit my post |

285's on a LM GT4? I hope you have a 10" wide LM GT4 because I have them too and I'm running 9.5" back (common size) and 275 is the biggest you can safely go.

Whatever, I meant at least a 10" wide. I do not remember the exact widths they come in, but the most common are 8.5 front and 9.5 rear. And upon further investigation a 285 MIGHT fit depending on the tire, but it'd be a little too big to fit on the rim if it was me.

You can definitely go bigger than 275 on a 18x9.5" wheel. Stock class autocrossers with RX8s and Solstices with 18x8" wheels run 285/30 all the time. Most 285/30s are rated for use on a 9.5" wheel. It might not have the best contact patch on a wheel that's on the narrow side of its rated range, but it will fit on there and be safe.

i noticed essentially autoX, and drag guys posted there setup. yet I've only seen one road race minded car (that being sasha, who has a z33 to race with for next season). I know in some instances you are limited by tire width due to class and what not. The point of this thread seems lost to me, with out at least digging into the area where jason rhoades and aceinhole really spend the money on. suspension. what good is having massive amounts of rubber if the suspension isn't up to the task.
275 isn't necessary on our cars. hell if we are road racing 255/40/17 RA1 or NT-01s should be fine enough without going widened fenders.

This thread is about large wheel/tire fitment, not an overall strategy for building a track car.
Aceinhole had D2 coilovers until very recently. Clearly, big tires were of benefit to him despite his less-than-ideal suspension. Have you tested various tire widths by comparing track times? Sure, 245s or 255s are probably adequate and the best choice for most, but that's not to say that larger tires won't turn faster laptimes. I'm guessing Sasha wasn't running 275 f/305 r just for looks. |

gsracer FTW!
I run 275s on my 9 inch rims, and would have to concerns about saftly running a 285, 285 would be considered... but with low profile tires you start to push it there if you want to handle. My car sees the road course. I dont go door to door racing, but do HPDE. I also do 6-7 drag days a year, and 7+ auto-x.

I didnt say i needed to go bigger. I was saying that I wouldn't have any concerns with going bigger then the size I have on a 9inch rim. Like earlier someone stated that its not safe to have a 285/295 on a 9.5 rim

I don't have any pictures but on my s14 i have 18x9.5 with +12 offset MB Drifter wheels and 275/35/18 yokahama advan neova's on all 4. the front has wide body fenders and i pulled the rear out about an inch with a fender roller. i had to run about -2.5 camber in the front and about -2 on the rear. on the rear there was still room to go in about an inch in and use wider-less offset wheels. probably could have fit 315's under there. but i like the way it looks now.

I'm really not sure exactly... I measured them once a few years ago. I think it was something like +12 in front and -6 in the rear. My numbers could be off. They aren't really sold with offset sizes; you order the rim halves by width. The front fit without a spacer but it is very close to the coilover, I couldn't add any more to the inner rim half. There is plenty of room for more inner rim on the rear though.
Front - outter rim - 1.5 inner rim - 8 Rear - outter rim - 3 inner rim - 7 I'm ordering new outter 2" halves for the front and 9" inner halves for the rear. I had one fatigue crack on me. See the crack going through all the bolt holes. So I decided to go for maximum width since I'm ordering new parts anyway. ![]() As a note I didn't order the current sizes. I picked up the wheels 2nd hand from a 2001 ford mustang GT2 racecar. That is why the wheel offset isn't quite ideal yet.
