Intercooler Question

ok i just want my car started...i am doing a sr20det s13 blacktop engine into my s14 shell...i dont want to spend so much money on a intercooler because later on i will upgrade to an expensive one good for 400+ hp..as for now i keeping this car stock ...is there any intercooler out there i can just buy(ebay ) or any other intercooler for stock hp..when i upgrade i will buy me a greddy vspec..as for now i just want something for a stock set up..budget wise something cheaper then a greddy m spec..what you guys think about these ebay intercooler kits?

crap . enough said

at stock boost a larger intercooler is not needed . if you are running stock setup i wouldnt change it . or if you really want to be "cool" and have a front mount that your going to destroy when you hit anything , then save your money and buy a real one . not some cheap shit , inefficient ebay core that is worh more as scrap aluminum .

SMIC, or just a godspeed, either way it'll be fairly cheap and effective on your setup...

it's an intercooler, a core is a core, especially when your talking about a stockish setup, rather than just say it's junk, why don't you offer some insight to actually help him out.

yea, it'll be fine, i'm running one on my ka-t setup pushing 270hp and haven't had any problems with it what so ever. as far as upgrading goes, unless your pushing a good amount of hp, a 3 row intercooler such as a greddy or arc aren't really nessisary but more of baller items.

If you don't think the m spec is enough for 350-400 hp then buy the hybrid intercooler. They have pretty good quality and I see these intercoolers on fairly high horsepower sr20. There is no point in going cheap now and buying another intercooler in the future. Just by putting good front mount, you should gain a good 15-20 hp and you can definitely feel it.

the ss autochrome intercooler kits are pretty decent, imo. I know alot of people with 300+whp running them, without any problem. I have their intercooler as well, but I'm not really close to 300whp. However, the piping doesnt mount up for shit somethimes, but I suppose it's the luck of the draw. Anyway, an intercooler is an intercooler, whatever badge they may stamp on it, granted the materials they use and the R&D may be a little better, but the cooling efficency is going to be close to the same.

the ebay ones are huge!!!!!!!! lol the only problem, is that fitment is not always great, you might get lucky, but the fitment for ebay ones really suck.

they work great though, they get the job done

I have one of those Hybrid ones. They are great. Way better quality than ebay, super customer service from Hipro, and mine fit GREAT.

This is what you do:

1. Go over to EvolutionM.net
2. Go to the for sale section
3. Find a FMIC take off from an '03 up Evo
4. Pay $50
5. Install and have fun

The stock FMIC on the Evos are good to 350 hp. After that the efficiency drops off.

Hell, I've got two sitting in my basement.
