Brand New Turbo Question (with picture)

Okay....so my GT2871R just came in the mail from ATP, in a Garrett box, brand new!

I am excited, and I was looking at it and all, and I found a possible problem, but I need some experts to chime in.

The picture below shows the end bolt holding the compressor wheel in place:

My concern is over the bolt holding the compressor wheel on.....if you look carefully, it looks like the one side of the bolt, on the bottom left side, (which should be hexagonal) is kind of rounded off....

I am wondering if this should be cause for concern....with the turbo rotating at 100,000 RPM+, proper rotational balance is EXTREMELY important, and I am wondering if the bolt being rounded on the one corner is enough to create problems

Thanks

Pretty sure that's normal and indicates that it has indeed been balanced.

Wow.....that's what I was thinking, and my dad said the same thing (he's not big on cars, but he's pretty smart)...

...but then we thought about it and were like, "na, they wouldn't do that to every single turbo coming off the line"

good to hear, thanks man

thats how they balance the compressor side - the turbine side may have a similar grinding

u can see it here...

Yup, what the others said. All of the turbos we order come like that also, some more then others. It should be just fine. They do "grind" on other places as well for balancing. That bolt is the most noticeable.

What everyone said I just sold that same turbo...but I liked it, good luck
Greedy suction intake kit works great with that turbo and off sets the hotpipe just right with the elbow it comes with..

what cause it to take 7months? I dont think it ever takes over 2weeks unless there is a backorder, or they need to weldsomething onto the turbo or something. I don't remember seeing the gt2871r on back order. But, I guess it depends on where you buy it from and what they use for parts.

i ordered it directly from Garrett, it was on backorder. supposedly, one of Garrett's supplier of one of the turbo part went down under so Garrett had to source another supplier.

i spoke to one of the guys at the Colorado plant.
