Installing Cams

When one is installing cams on their car is there anything else that should be/needs to be done at the same time? I heard that you should also replace shims (what shims? this is for a '95 240sx KA)? How many shims are there? Are they expensive to purchase? I am currently intending on installing these myself so i figured it is probably best to just replace the shims in there rather than chance it with the current ones being out of tolerance.

shims comes in different sizes, you need to measure the clearence between the shim and the cams to buy the right one. They sell them in a pack with all sizes, or you can just get the specific size after you measure each of them.
they are not expensive at all.
