Unhappy Stalling while driving....

as the title says...when i'm driving my 93 240...and i want to down shift...sometimes the RPM drops so low...the car stalls...as car is rolling!!....my foot is on the clutch...so it's technically in neutral...it only happens every so often...but it'd kind of scary...and at times the car idles between 900-500...i'm thinking 500 is pretty low....could someone tell me what's goin on?? could i just adjust the idle to a higher setting?? thanks...

Do you mean that your idle fluxuates between 500-900? If so, it could be a vacuum leak. Check your AIV system over.

Otherwise, you can adjust the idle using the screw on the ECU.

Does it idle low when you're sitting at a light in Neutral, or when you start the car and let it warm up? If both those instances have normal idle, I would agree w/ Titan on the vaccuum leak, or even possibly a hose somewhat "collapsing" when your RPMs fluctuate when down-shifting.

it doesn't idle low at a light when i'm on neutral...only when i'm slowing down and put the car in neutral it does...it's probably a vacuum leak??

that very well is a clogged or bad aiv valve. I know my car did it and we cleaned out my throttle boddy with carb cleaner and it went away for a little while but then came back. Now its worse than ever. yes when you are in neutral at idle sometimes it will just drop to the point it stalls. We are probably gonna go after my aiv tomorrow . Which I am not looking forward to because those things are a total pita to get to remove and clean or replace.

hell, it was easy to fix in my '90.

I got all the hoses going to it out of the way, unscrewed the clamp, pried off the top cover, and blasted the insides with carb cleaner. I let it soak in a while, buttoned everything back up, and it's run like a champ ever since. Maybe 15 minutes total.

The box isn't the valve itself. The AIV is a weird looking metal thing bolted to a bracket that's bolted to the driver's side strut tower. That black box is in the tubing that goes to the AIV from the airbox.
