Dremel.

Those heat shields are so rusted anyways a dremel would probably be your only option.

Dremel will work but be careful not to use the bigger cutting wheels. You could push too hard and hit the mainfold, that could become a pain in the AS*!
Use the smallest wheel you can find, new wheels will cut through it like butta!!

Good luck!

Lightbulb

I would have to say that a hack saw wouldn't work. Well it probably would if you want to do it the ghetto-try to save a buck-mickey mouse-make it harder than it has to be-way.

If you go to Walmart or Kmart you can find a good quality dremel for about thirty bucks. Trust me it's not a one use item. I bought a Black & Decker for 35.00 and I swear that thing has helped me with repairing scratches on my rims, clipping extremely long bolt stems, cutting out chunks of metal so my cold air extension would fit in the small hole without scraping everytime I start up the car. Trimming down the stems on my new motor mounts so that they go on easier.

Yeah it's kinda like a hand held circular saw but with attachments, no blade. If you do decide to get one, get one with the variable speed dial, and ask an employee for help finding a good one when you get to the store. Ask them for any tips they may have with using one. Try Home Depot or Lowe's if you can they're really helpful.

Good Luck, and don't cut off your fingers!!

which heat shield is rattling?
the one on the cat or the on on the manifold its self?
if it's the one on the maiifold just take out the o2 sensor and bend the **** out of it until it comes loose

the cat manifold - well, i threw it away with my cat when i went to a 2.5 inch hi-flow

get some sheer metal cutters, about 4.99, and cut the bitch off, then remove the three 10mm bolts

not incredibly important in a naturally aspirated car. if he had forced induction the temps under the hood would be much higher and a heat shield would be a nice thing to have.
