Oil Pressure & Temp Install

Hey guys, so I have a Megan oil pressure gauge and a Megan oil temperature gauge that I wanna install on my redtop SR. Yes, yes, I know they may not be the most accurate gauges but I bought them when I first got my car and figure I'd might as well run em now until I have money to get some decent gauges. I didn't want to drill into the oil pan for the oil temp sensor so I went out and bought a 1/8 female pipe tee. and a 1/8 hex nipple.



The instructions that came with the gauges is specifies:

"Do not use teflon thread sealer tape on the sending unit. This will cause a ground problem and the gauge will read inaccurately. It is highly advisable to ground the gauge at the engine close to the oil sender."

Now... my question is, to those of you who have installed oil pressure/temp gauges, whether it be Megan or any other brand...

1. did the instruction included specify the same?
2. And if so or if not, is there any kind of thread sealant that I could use that won't cause a grounding problem?
3. did you ground close to the sender? if not where?

I don't want any leaks. Thanks in advance.

I have Defi oil pressure and water temp gauges.

I used thread sealant on the oil press gauge and teflon tape on the water temp gauge.

No problems with either.

alright sweet... what kind of thread sealer did you use? i picked up some permatex red (high heat) thread sealant today... did you ground the gauges close to the senders?

I can't remember the brand off hand, but it was a rather small white tube and the liquid inside was white as well. I want to say it was made by Permatex, but I honestly can't remember.

Any auto parts store should carry it. Look for something that lists high heat applications and oil applications.

While I'm not familiar with the Megan gauges, the sensors my Defi gauges use run the harness (including ground wire) straight into the Defi Link control unit which is centrally grounded. Easy as pie to install.

have u considered...loctight...

shit works wonders...then again high heat motor...second or even third opinion would be recomended

yea, I'm gonna stop by a auto parts store today and find some. i beleive the high temp stuff is rated at 450*F Max Temp.

but i'm still curious as to whether or not even loctite might cause a ground problem.

I used teflon tape too on my autometers. Works fine. Different from Defi gauges because is different from the sliding ohm type sensors. Defi has a built in 5V converter where as the one he is holding passes current through the senor where the sensor has an ohm and the meter measures the difference in the 12.5v signal going in and out. Overall, I used teflon on my oil sensor and never had a problem.
