![]() i am looking to install an electric fan in place of the oem fan. i am currently looking at a few kits from summit. i would rather use a thread in sensor, rather than the probe that gets put in the radiator (between the fins) but did not know where to put it. I would prefer to not "splice" a piece of pipe with a threaded bung into a radiator hose, and WOULD like to use an existing threaded hole if possible. i believe the sensor comes with a sensor that is 1/8 npt. if anyone has a pic, or knows where i can hook this sensor to, i would appreciate it.
also i plan on setting the fan to run at 180, and shut off at 170. lmk what you think. CAR: 1995 240sx (base), stock for now, plan on boosting. (have all parts, but want to get a few supporting things done 1st.) Brian. |

Well trust me, they work. At least maybe it works in my miracle car. Switch on temp is kinda high though, 200+ iirc. But luckily, I have a free fan controller that im going to be using soon, oh yea, its "stock" too.

Well, I have those too, but the catch is I can adjust when it comes on, so it is fine. It sounds more like your fan is not kicking on at the right temp. It is not as good as it is not taking water temp, but the rad. temp. So I will switch my controller later. But right now it works wonderfully.

agreed...if its got cold air hitting it between the fins...its not getting a proper core temperature from within...
getting something that withing is a lot better.

The 'best' method I've found is to buy a Pivot fan controller. There's two models, one comes with a sender that you can put into the inlet neck on the manifold, just drill/tap behind the OE senders, the other model ties into the OE sender and reads it from there. There's some confusion when you order one since most places aren't very thorough in their description and you may get either model, but it does the job, is programmable, and includes a water temp display so you can ditch the OE gauge completely.

AND its 2 stage which works great for altima fans. Only thing that could make it more perfect is a manual bypass in case some shit goes bad but if you're smart enough with wiring you can do that anyway.

my 2 favorite methods, is to eithor use Greddy MSS, which i have, it uses the stock CTS signal, or use a lower radiator hose adapter, and sensor from SOHC, this is the cheapest option...use it with a 30A relay and 10amp fuse....
really simple wiring...12+ (constant or ign+ doesnt matter) to fan, via fuse 12+ to #85 on relay ground to 86 wire from 87 to neg side of fan wire 30 to one side of the sensor, and ground the other side. i believe that this is correct for the wiring cant really remember off the top of my head...someone correct me if i am wrong. |

Owned.
And where can I get this two stage Pivot controller? I have Altima fans, so this would be awesome.

Complete fail. 1/2" NPT would be huge as fuck.

Indeed. 1/4" NPT is pretty large for our small scale equipment.

does anyone know the thread size for the sensor in the SOHC lower hose adapter?? I'm looking for fan controller kits, and they all come with 3/8" sensors....whereas you guys keep talkin bout 1/8"..... I've got the SOHC hose adapter, but wanna know if i can use a 3/8" sensor without welding a bung on

cuz i'm planning on using an adjustable temp fan controller that relies on its own provided temp sensor. I'm thinking the ECU temp sender puts out a different signal than the one with this kit......
So i ordered the kit i was gonna use from summit, and now find out its backordered. This got me thinking it could be a sign that i don't need it. S13's have a circuit built in for an A/C fan correct? Meaning it triggers the A/C fan when temp reaches a certain point and/or the A/C is turned on. Instead of dropping $40 on an adjustable kit (or $30 for non adjustable), could i plug my fans into this circuit?? I'm assuming it's relayed...but if not then i could just hook up a relay that's triggered from this circuit correct? I'm all about low buck but effective. let me know if that would work and if i would need to use a relay or not NOTE: (i'll be using 2 14" fans that each draw 6.7 amps) |

Yes they do but its way high. Like, I wouldn't recommend using it if you actually drive your car.
I think its 190F? My car NEVER sees that temp with my fan setup.
