![]() I recently purchased a 1992 coupe and I have a few questions.
First, my HUD/Speedo does not work; but the rest of my dash does. I did a search and didn't find a sutible answer as to why it is/might be out. I'm assuming the thing is dead and needs to be replaced. How much is this unit? Is it more economical to find a none HUD dash and just switch them? I would like to keep the HUD, but I don't NEED it. I'll be happy as long as I can tell what speed I'm going. Also, my brake lights do not work, everything else does. The bulbs are fine and so is the fuse in the foot well. Any ideas? Thanks...........Eddie ![]() |

HUD is notorious for not working. i suggest getting a non hud cluster and subharness and swapping them out
basically make sure you get the subharness from a non hud when you get the cluster. then you take out your old HUD cluster andput in the new one. you dont need to change your dash unless you are a perfectionist and dont want the HUD at all, but it wont matter dash wise, the clusters are same size for your brakes. since you said the bults and fuses were ok, probaly wiring problem. check your wiring to the brake lights. |

Thanks for the reply.
When I said dash I ment cluster, sorry. The dash itself doesn't matter to me. As for my brake lights. The wiring in the trunk area looks to be in order. I pulled out all the plastic and there is no noticable bad connection. I guess i'm not totally sure where to begin to find the problem. Thanks again....Eddie |

My 89 S13 had a prob with interior dash lights + hud + parking/brake lights. I never had the hud or interior dash fixed, but I did however rig a wire onto the lighting circuit on the board with ignition power and the brake and parking lights began to work as long as I had my headlights on. Personally, if you ask me, ALL these probs could be related to that obsolete dash ornament.

Now I actually Know for sure that I am not a fan of the HUD.
Almost as soon as I was finished with my reply post in this thread I went out to mess with the brake wiring some more, turned the car on and the HUD started working again. Then of course it only worked a couple of times throughout the evening. I think the best way to describe the HUD would be, HUD=teh suck. As of now I'm am looking for a none HUD cluster, hopefully I can find one at a junk yard. Since I can't seem to figure out my brake lights, I think I'll be forced to take it to the dealership to get it checked out. What really gets me is that the tail lights light up when I have my headlights on, but the brighter brake filaments aren't kicking in. But, other than these minor problems, I love this car..........Eddie |
