Clutch opinions - SPEC Stage 2
I'm only looking for the opinions of those who have used it... I know the specs and implications (full face, kevlar disc).
Mostly I'm concerned with its street behavior. Different clutch manufacturers/vendors have different definitions of "streetable". The previous owner of my GTI installed a kevlar 8-puck clutch that according to the manufacturer has "stock pedal feel" ![]() I'm very picky about clutch feel and considering putting my 240SX into daily driver use. A Stage 1 would be a better choice for me, but I already have a brand new Stage 2 lying around that I got for cheap when I had different plans for the car/engine. Edit: I just did some reading and it seems the Stage 1's have a flaw in the organic material that causes them to fail in a very short time. Maybe I made the right choice after all. ![]() Last edited by AKADriver; 03-03-2003 at 03:25 PM.. |

I have a stage 2 in my sr. I think it is very streetable. Granted I havent had the ability to actually go out and run the hell out if it---I am still in the tuning process. From just casual driving it feels real smooth, without a real stiff pedal. Sorry I cant be of more help. I need to get the whole car finished.

I have a SPEC stage 2 on my stock ka. To the untrained person the pedal feel would be exactly the same. The engagement point is the same and is smooth. The only difference is I can chirp 3rd where i couldnt before. I couldnt tell you about holding because my engine is stock. Hope that helps.

Actually, that helps a bunch. My engine is stock also and that's exactly what I'm looking for. I have a stock clutch with 50,000+ on it that's already going bad. Thanks for the input, folks.

I've had that clutch on my SR for a while. slips sometimes at too much power but pedal feel is equal to stock.
For a stock KA I think it'd be the best choice. I had the centerforce df on my old kA. no good. |

Are exedy clutches very expensive? Also is the clutch feel much stiffer? I'd assume so, but you never know.

Exedy is just a brand. They make a ton of OEM clutches. If you're going to get one of the $100 Exedy clutches on Ebay, it is just a stock clutch, nothing more. Asking if they are expensive is like asking if Nissan engines are expensive...what are you buying?
I have a Spec St. 2 and I like it. Pedal feel really is stock, but the engagement is much harsher. Clutch chatters a bit, but it's really no big deal. Easily dealt with in traffic. |
