Question cruise control with your sr

How many of you are using cruise control in your sr powered cars ? Are you encountering any probs with it ? Did you need to buy anything to make it work ?

I am just currious and am thinking about hooking it back up in my car.

SR never came with cruise control last time I checked. The throtle pulley thing doesn't have the extra spot of the cruise cable.

did any sr's come with it ? If you use a ka throttle body or if you mod the sr throttle body would the ecu need to be programed for it.

Im just currious if it cam be done or not. I just went on a 1200 mile trip in my z28 and forgot how much I liked having it on road trips. Im planning on driving to ca from nc and that might suck without it.

You need to work out a way to get the cable in there. Using a KA throttle cable pulley will work.

Naturally, you'll need the motor and vacuum->throttle cable boxes also.

I have all the stuff to do it, and the wiring diagram for the buttons. I'll do a writeup eventually when I throw it in.

Cruise control is nice. There are also aftermarket units available, especially if you search Russ's posts.

The cruise control wiring is on a separate harness, the ECU has nothing to do with it. If you use a KA throttle body you're basically done as long as you didn't cut anything out.

Or if your car didn't come with one, order a 250-1076 or 250-1322 kit from Rostra, with a 250-3421 handle. Very easy to install aftermarket kit.

Will increase MPG on the HW as nobody can hold a fixed mph no mater how hard they try. Been proven in tests of CC vs foot control.

S13SR Use the KA TB. S14SR get one out of a late model G20.

Your argument is flawed because your premise assumes that if the driver is not monitoring vehicle speed and modulating throttle position accordingly, the driver falls asleep.

I strongly disagree with your argument. If you're not on the throttle, your foot should be covering the brakes. Freeing up throttle modulation also makes you less fatigued and frees your attention to monitor road conditions.

If your only defense against falling asleep is controlling the throttle, then you need not be driving.

Spoken like a champ. I retained all my KA stuff needed and it works as it did before. After I did the UKDM cluster I don't have the green cruise light but who gives a shit plus I never use cruise I have ADD.

Last time I tried going from Pasadena to San Diego in my S2000 I drove without going down and cruise control going back and I saved more gas without using cruise control set at 72 mph. I was keeping a steady speed of 71-73 using throtle modulation with my foot and cruise control was actually letting it drop down to 68-69 on the hills before it kicked in trying to give it more gas.

cruise control in my sti was cool. when you pressed accell it gained speed pretty quick. i use to tease my buddy with a civic that my cruise control would out accellerate his flat out.

but i it for long trips so my foot doesnt cramp up. and as for worse gas milage with it on. i think you get better with it. i went for a tank or two without using it and the rest of the way with using it. i got beter mpg when i used it.

my two cents

It's well known that you get worse gas mileage with cruise control on, as much as 5mpg worse. This is because cruise control doesn't deal with hills in an efficient manner (by slowing down, downshifting, etc for less throttle and less revs). I notice this every time I drive my truck with cruise on... it just sits there at full throttle to gain another 3mph, sucking gas like whoa.

When you drive as much for work as I do, you keep good track of this shit.

dont think the argument here is whether or not cruise control saves on gas, but on who has it, and how is it done, besides just turn the cruise control off if you NKOW you are approaching a big enough hill...did that method on one trip and still kept the gas savings of cruise control...

anywho, to the OP, if you can do a write up on how you got your cruise control to work. Now that you bring it up, i think it would be a good idea, considering that alot of ppl still do cross country drives, and its a nice relaxing feeling to let your foot go and rest for a while....

Was the car auto? There's a clutch cancel switch for the cruise, without it the cruise doesn't know the clutch is depressed and won't cut off. Tap the brake first before shifting in/out of gear to disengage it.

FYI, the maximum set speed is 90MPH, but you can hit the ACCEL button and get it up to 92-93MPH before it cuts off.
