None of the ones I've rented work particularly well, but shit, there's only so many types of valve spring tools. I'm sure people will post up with "what they've used", but I'd be surprised if there's a "perfect" tool for it.

![]() This is the one I used. I bought off ebay for about 50 or 60 dollars. Search for "valve spring tool" on ebay and it should be there. It is the same thing as the snap on tool. I got my valve springs out in about 20 minutes with this thing. It is so easy to use. |

damn 50 or 60, I may just fight with my harbor freight special, It works kind of, may need to modify, but thank you for the pic, also I will check the fsm, I just figured it would be one of those dealer only tools that costs 800 dollars to buy, ahem....valve shim tool.

Yea I bought for 60 and then I rented it out twice for 20 dollars each time and then finally sold it on ebay for 40 dollars. This tool is so much easier to use than the traditional ones. Took me abound 15-20 minutes to get them out and about 30 minutes to install the valve springs.

rental ones suck... harbor freight suck.... my neighbor took a c-clamp and welded a coupling on the flat end of it with part of it slotted out so you could seat the retainers. worked perfectly. lots of people have fabbed up some cool tools and im sure there are plenty of pics online.

or just take it to a machine shop and for 25 bucks they will replace the springs. (Price depending on Shop)
Dont forget the valve guide seals too

Yah, I have a machine shop who will probably do it for next to nothing since I am getting honing and resurfacing of the head done already. I have new seals, guides, BC springs and retainers as well. Guide work will cost too much for me but maybe just have them install the other stuff for good measure and less money.
