Nissan's anti drunk driver technology??

the source is over a year old, but i dunno if there was ever any updates to it.

Nissan presented a new concept car equipped with various systems that not only detect and warn drivers about their state of sobriety, but they also take matters into their hands immobilizing the vehicle. The systems incorporated in Nissan’s concept car include a facial monitor that detects driver’s consciousness through eyes, a driving monitor that checks the behavior of the vehicle –eg. If the car strays out of its driving lane, and alcohol odor sensors integrated into the driver’s and passenger seats to detect the presence of alcohol in the air inside the vehicle cabin. These systems issue visual and voice warning alerts and/or tighten the driver’s seat belt.

I wish our government would retro fit this into every freaking car on the road. Id say its tax dollars well spent. WHat do you guys think?

Anyways if the general public wasn't so amazingly stupid we'd never need this kinda technology but alas, people just don't know any better. Having a brain, random DUI checkpoints, and constant reminders just aren't enough I guess.

I'm all for it because it seems like nobody wants to give these people the death penalty or anything.

NOW HOW ABOUT THIS UPGRADE, if and when the car detects an intoxicated driver, the car not only shuts itself down, but locks itself up and notifys the police to arrest the dumbass driver!! oh man its genius.....

if they implement it, sooner or later you start seeing audio/electronic shops, start finding ways around it....

but i think its a good idea as long as the consumer dont have to pay a shitload of the system

This is for all you Paris Hiltons and Lindsay Lohan’s out there! Nissan is in the midst of developing something that will contribute to the safety of society and keep menaces like Lohan and Hilton, who just can’t learn from one mistake, to stay off the road. It’s an in car breathalyzer which is activated when the car key is switched to “on”. It requires the driver to blow into a device before the engine will start. If the blood alcohol level is above the preset limit, the ignition is automatically disabled and you’re walking or taking a crusty cab home!

We think Nissan should hurry things up and get this thing out on the market before the Olsen twins do something drastic.
