A teen was killed early this morning when a stolen car he was driving crashed into an apartment complex during a chase with San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies, officials said.

The pursuit began at 1:46 a.m., when a deputy noticed a driver and passenger switching positions inside a 2000 Honda stopped at the intersection of Highland and Arden avenues, sheriff's Sgt. Dave Phelps said. The car immediately ran a red light, Phelps said.

The deputy gave chase for three minutes and three miles, as the Honda ran several stop signs and red lights, Phelps said. The driver then lost control at the corner of Lynwood Drive and Sterling Avenue in San Bernardino, crashing through a wall and into the Terrace Village apartment complex, Phelps said.

Two people were inside the unit the car struck, but were uninjured, San Bernardino police Sgt. Jarrod Burguan said.

Both occupants of the Honda were ejected. The driver, 17-year-old Michael Brinkman, a Loma Linda resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, Ismael Rodriguez, 20, of San Bernardino, was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center in critical condition, Phelps said.

The crash busted a gas line at the complex and forced the evacuation of 100 units, Burguan said. Residents were allowed back inside at 6 a.m.

The Honda was later found to be stolen Sunday night in Highland, Burguan said.

don't wish death on anyone that hasn't ended the life of someone else, honestly. I just wish those two got caught, went to jail for 6 months, rehabbed their own lives, got married, had beautiful kids and lived long lives looking back on the day that they stole the car as an idiotic move. There's so many should of could of would of's though. And this is not because I leave so very close to San Berdo

i can wish death on people all i want. if i had any confidence that they actually would be completely reformed after 6 months in jail, i'd be fine with them living. but so far, they've proven their worth to society and don't deserve to be a part of it.

normally i'd have a problem posting a picture of a 17 year old's brains splattered across a building, but i'm oddly ok with it in this case.

i do feel bad saying this, but they deserve it...

back in 02 or something, I had a 2000 celica gts, widebodies, tvs, 19's, basically I loved the car. GOT STOLEN! STRIPPED, ETC. I then got it back, loved the car enough to bring it back to how it was, then STOLEN AGAIN!

so in the end, it discouraged me for a while. ....

i completly agree. death is no joke and i dont think stealing a car calls for death. wishing death on someone who stole a car espesialy at such a young age is just wrong. he's young and stupid thats all
