nismo motormounts and what they can do for me
right now I am debating whether I should get the nismo motor mounts.
I was wondering if getting new motor mounts is really worth it. what kind of advantages are there to getting new ones opoposed to having the old stock ones. Also are there any alternaive mounts that I can get cheaper than $230? I know the mounts are good especially you might as well do it when you are swapping your engine, which is what I am going to do but the nismo motor mounts is a hefty cost. |

Well, I can't help you out to much here....other than the mounts are much stronger/stiffer meaning the engine won't move as much under load. On the other hand, the Nismo mounts won't absorb vibrations like the stocks ones do.....
There are at least one other manufacturer of the motor mount kit, but they're very hard to obtain here in the states...and more $$$. I think there by URAS or something like that. BTW where can you get them for $230??? most sell them for $275 ![]()

URAS and KAZAMA mounts are SUPER ROCK HARD. you want streetability? you wont buythose!
nismo is good for street. remember, nismo is NOT high performance in the same respects as other companies are. they are like upgrade OEM. you wont get MAX performance out of them (let's say exhausts) but you'll definately get a upgrade over stock. nismo is like OEM quality and dependability. motormounts from nismo are great. i know LOTS ofpeople with SRs who use them (and a few KA guys) and no regrets from any. very streetable |

The main/only advantage to harder mounts is smoother power delivery.
It's worth replacing them if your stock mounts are damaged, otherwise just stick with stock. |

engine vibrates and can rock w/ torque. you transfer that already thru the shifter, if you hold your shifter when yo udriver HARD it rocks and vibrates a lot. you'll see what i mean if you watch your shifter on hard driving
now if your motor mounts are rock hard (like uras/kazama) you get all that vibration and such transfered thru the whole car=a very uncomfortable ride. |

I bought some used KA mounts from someone and filled them in with 3M Windo-weld (urethane) and it did the job (motormounts were trashed). I notice a lot of noise coming from everywhere, but I can live with it. I just turn up the volume on my deck.
Used Motor MOunts = $40 3M windo-weld = $10.99 Happy Fogleroller = Priceless http://importnut.net/motormount.htm http://midwayautosupply.com/detailed...ption.asp?1250 ![]() -have fun Last edited by fogleroller; 03-25-2003 at 08:32 AM.. |

Figure I'll post this here instead of starting a new topic.
What about engine braces? Like the one's that go from the strut tower to your head? Seems that they would acomplish the same thing as harder motor mounts for a cheaper price? Any one have any experience with these? More importantly anyone know where I could get my hands on one? I remember HPI made them a while ago. |

I do know what the motor mounts are used for. The main purpose would be to mount the engine to the chassis. The thing that I was confused with is that you said that it would reduce the ride quailty i.e "streetablity" with that said, I wanted to know by how much compared to stock and is it that noticeable but since you cannot explain does anyone else have any real world experience to draw a comparison from?

Sit on your engine. Yank the throttle cable. That's what it feels like with the solid mounts. Pretty much unstreetable. Intolerable after a few minutes.
The Nismo mounts are tolerable. |

Asad says that he carefully measured Nismo mounts and fresh stock KA mounts, and found them to be identical when uninstalled. Search freshalloy "motor mounts" for that thread.
A stiffer mount is going to compress much less when mounted in the car, though, which could make the engine sit higher. Perhaps the Nismo mounts need time to settle? |

I have a question.
Is it possible to INCREASE ride qualtiy, and reduce cabin vibration / engine noise, or any but changine your motor mounts? I am wondering how german cars can make virtually no engine vibration / very low noise in the cabin of some of there cars... (or is it 100% sound deadening?) specifically an A4 1.8t ( my brothers car). Feels like the engines off untill you come close to 4K rpm fully stock. I am going to be doin an engine swap very soon, wanted to see if it would be worth swap the mounts for new / upgraded ones... |

Keep in mind that different engines have different harmonics. Balancing shafts and other designs can also reduce engine roughness. Sound insulation has a lot to do with it, but if you want more engine isolation, then get a new set of stock engine mounts.

The A4's engine is longitudinally mounted like a RWD car, even in the FWD version... This means they can use comparatively softer engine mounts and still have good power transfer. They put a lot more engineering into truly making their engine mounts dampers than Nissan did with the 240SX, but that's what you get from a luxury car. They also employ various other tricks to smooth out that 1.8t... strategically placed mass, etc...
