any safe way of testing an amp at home?

is there? how would i do it? it doesnt have to be for a long time, just a temporary thing, to test and see if the amp works fine, i have a box to try it on...

testing amps is easy, you need a high amperage 12 volt power supply (these are available at radio shack from around 50 dollars on up) and a multimeter. A reliable test speaker and a reliable source unit will also pay great dividends. For a convenient source unit, I usually use a cd walkman with an rca adaptor because I like to keep my troubleshooting equipment portable. In your case you could simply run rca's from a home cd player to the amp.

when you said high amperage.. how high did you actually mean? i can only find like 1.75 amps, which i don't know if it's enough!? does anybody know?

your amplifier...how many watts is it peak? divide that number by 12, and you now know how many amps it *can* draw.

so, 500 watt amp/12 volts = 40.something amps

Make sense?
