speed governer/ fuel cutoff .. whens it kick in

I was drivin on an empty long straight road the other day, and decided to just go... top out my 240 and see what happened. Right around 120, RPMs dropped drastically, so i slowed down. Was that the governer or fuel cutoff? or are they the same thing.

if they are different, when does each kick in?

one more thing... my friends stock mk3 jetta does 125 steadily... what can our cars do with the governer removed.

Yes, our cars are known to hit the speed governer at like 119 or so.

112mph

The speedometer itself is not accurate above normal highway speeds. It might show 115 or more, but 112 is the speed that's actually being picked up by the vehicle speed sensor when the governor kicks in.

not to be an ass but I'd like to know how you "know" that the stock speedo isn't correct as a rule for our cars.
do you have any proof of that or is this a "my friend in his 140 mph integra rolled next to me, and his speedo only showed 110 when mine showed 120" kinda proof?

JWT says the 240 will do 130-135mph with only thier ecu. everything else stock.

I plan on getting some sort of rev-speed meter for my car.. I don't trust what my speedo says at all above about 80mph.

speedo's get considerably more and more inaccurate as you reach the limit of their reading capacity. I thought this was just a known fact. besides anyone with the stock speedo does not KNOW they were doing 120.

Because that's true for ALL speedometers.

Even the limiter isn't 100% accurate, though... minor changes in tire size can have a decent effect on it... metered tests in car magazines show top speeds between 108 and 118, obtained using their own precision equipment.

I don't speed like that on the street anymore...

alright, well does anyone know what the speed cut off is for an accord v-6?
I'm on stock tires and we raced and just kept pulling on each other as we hit our respective speed limiters...
*shrugs*
mine doesn't seem to be doing 115 when it cuts out, but its fast enough.

I've got a 96' and either the previos owner removed the governor or my cars different. Cause when I had just CAI and catback exhaust, my car pushed the 120 speedo and kept going, my guess was about 130 and there was no governor I figured I hit the drag limit cause the revs didn't drop at all, they kept steady.

Course that was back when I was driving like crazy! Ah the good old days before cops with radars got me!

Anyways, I have read articles about the 240 and they all quoted the car as being drag limited not governor limited.

It's 112mph because there was a mandatory cut at 180kph in Japan. When they made the US version they kept it the same, at least on the 5spd. It was part of their avoid-high-insurace-rates approach to marketing the car.

yeah.. definately not fun.. When you hit it at WOT in the middle of a 28 degree banked corner, and it almost wrecks you, you realize how unsafe it is!

If you get rid of the Fuel cut speed limiter, you still have the rev-limiter about 400 rpm later which just makes the whole car shakes like hell.. doesn't upset the cars traction like the fuel cut, but still extremely unnerving.
