Clutch play wtf??

I have serious problems with my clutch. There is mad amounts of play in the system, meaning about half loose play and half actual clutch tension. As well, the engagement point is pretty much at the bottom of the stroke, maybe a cm or two above the floor. Shifting will get really jerky and stiff sometimes, feeling like the clutch isn't disengaging all the way at all.

The clutch is relatively new, installed last summer. And I've tried bleeding it for hours with no avail.

Setup on RB20: 6 puck sprung clutch, nismo fly wheel, nismo clutch hose, nismo clutch pivot.

Is my slave fucked? Or do you think otherwise?
Please help

No, I'm saying it's always buggered, haha.

By half and half I mean on the stroke of the clutch pedal, the first 50% is straight play then the last 50% you get tension on the pedal and are disengaging the clutch.

Tons of play!

have you actually tried adjusting the rod from the m/c that connects to the pedal?

most likely your slave cylinder or your master cylinder.

i would start with replacing the slave cylinder first.

or maybe its something else... but my guess its one of those two.

If you're talking about underneath the dash, the two nuts that adjust the position of the pedal on the rod (1 in front and 1 behind) are at the very end of the threads, meaning that they are as close the the back of the car as they can get. When the pedal is pushed the rod still moves in, and there is play. Meaning the pedal isn't free sliding then engaging the rod at half stroke. Will tightening the nuts, thus moving the pedal further down the rod, solve my problem?

if you never messed with it before, then what makes you think that fooling around with the adjustment will fix your problem, if anything it might make it worse. Obviously the adjustment should be fine if your clutch feel was feeling ok before this problem happend. Assuming you never messed with the adjustment before.

Nothing wrong with some tinkering!

I'm probably going to pick up new master and slaves.
See if this does anything.

get someone under the car to see if the slave cylinder moves at all when you press on the pedal. and just as a precaution, remove the dampening box and check your clutch assist spring along with the 2 small bushings holding it in for wear and tear.

slave or master or both. Go under your dash and see if the master is leaking. Easy fix.

Update:

No leaks, as said before the bleeding was done. I will remove the dampener box upon installation of new slave and master.

Onto the updates. Car was shifting alright this morning, went for practice. After / during shifting became excessively jerky, now I pretty much cannot shift into 1st, and the other gears require excessive force to shift into.

Would these symptoms show a slave / master shitting the bed?

Thanks guys;
Rob.

pretty much, basically what you said. You answered your own question, or have a proposed explanation. Your basically going through the steps of scientific method. you already have have your hypothesis, now you just need to test.

Did you mess around with the clutch pedal adjustment already? Extend the rod and that should raise the clutch engagement, assuming that the system is bled properly. Personally, I would adjust it first and get rid of the dampner box before I start buying a new master and slave cylinder.

Disconnect the hardline in the the dampner box and hand bend it gently towards the rubber line into the slave cylinder. Make sure you dont bend/crimp the hardline.

The rod has been raised entirely (as said, the nuts are at the very end of the threads) I will remove the dampener, but I Seriously don't think it's enough to make my clutch feel THIS bad. Unless the entire thing is filled with air.

Honestly, its a pain in the ass to bleed the lines with the dampner. Take it out, attach the hardline directy to the softline into the slave cylinder and rebleed the system. You'd be surprise how much of a difference it would pedal feel wise and how quickly you can bleed the system without it.

Hey, I'm goin through this same process. I gone through two Auto Zone crap cylinders they both blew because they couldn't handle the pressure I guess? They both have warranty so I was gonna go get another one and see if I could adjust the clutch pedal and see if it won't blow but before I do I wanted to know if anyone knew another way of fixing the problem or have dealt with somthing similar.

try bleeding the clutch really well first because i had a problem with clutch play when my car was cold then the play would get less and less as the car warmed up. If that doesn't solve your problem change your master and slave.

Sorry for thread jacking. Just didn't want to start a new thread and waste bandwidth. I changed my slave and everythings all good. I did adjust the clutch pedal because I did not want to screw up the slave cylinder again. Its all in and good.

But the clutch won't engage or I'll put it in gear and try to move the tire on the jack and it won't budge. I thought maybe its the TOB. I have not changed the master cylinder but It doesn't leak from the pedal. If anyone can give me some input or send me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

Thank You.

You probably adjusted the rod from the clutch master cylinder too far from the pedal so it's allowing the clutch to always be engaged. If that's the case, try turning the rod clockwise (towards the pedal) until you get the engagement point just right.
