I went ahead and made some aluminum door panels today. I have to pick up some rubber grommets and draw string, unless my appeals for chicks underwear strings gets answered (No shit stained tighty whities please
![]() I started by taping a piece of masking paper to the door and then trimming it to the shape I needed. I took the shape, traced it onto some aluminum and then spent a couple hours cutting shit up. Drilled a hole and stuck a Riv-Nut in it Drilled a couple holes in the panels and put them on. I still have to come up with 2-3 more bolting points and add some foam rubber and rubber edge lining. Pics As usual: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We are finished with the repaint. The weather was kidn of shitty so I didn't put it outside to take new pictures, I will get them up soon though. |

Today I finished up a very near and dear project. My headlight brackets. Now inorder to make suitable headlight brackets that adequately integrated into the mounting poing I had on the intercooler and the bumper retainer bar while remaining nice looking, I decided on two things. They had to be strong and they had to be aluminum.
I took some measurements and went off and purchased some cut pieces of 10mm thick 6061 T6 aluminum. Once I had those, I drill some holes and mocked everything up to determine the location of the upright portion of the bracket. Once those measurements were spot the fuck on, I had a friend weld them up for me. In order to prevent scrating and bending on the intercooler top surface I added some 15mm Hard rubber bumpers to the bottom of the bracket, drilled some more holes and the results of that labor are below. If you compare this to the cheap ass bent up wannabe bracket that I had before, I think you will agree that this approach was not only better looking but much better for the entire thing. Everything is solid with these brackets. I then mocked up a piece of 90 degree 3mm angled aluminum. I will cut it and edge it down to size and mount it to the brackets. This piece of angle will be the support structure for my air dam. Next was the doors. When we put the door latches on in the stock positions, they barely caught the second latching point and when they did, the ody lines were off by about 1/4 inch (door sunk in), so I had a friend of mine modify the door latch stryker by illongating the holes by 150 percent and what we have as a result is not only a perfectly latching door, but the body lines are all nice and lined up without compromising the purpose of the weather stripping. Next up, I will finish up and induction llens (I gutted the lights out of it) that I have been working on and will finish up with mounting the hood pins, the front CF ducts and the interior panels (will be plastic for the rear). Lookin good, lookin good.
You should be able to get universal inner door handlers, made to be put in sheet metal inner doors. Much less ghetto that a string. and I'm pretty sure most sanctioning bodies wouldn't be down with a string.

sickest shot ever!!!!!
this thread is so f'ing ridiculous. part of me thinks this car should be put into a hyperbaric chamber and preserved for future generations to see how it should be done.... but that RB needs to be abused the way it was designed to be. you ready to drop the engine in any time soon? |

I hope you finish this car.
I was thinking about the thread the other day and thought "I hope this isn't one of those wild builds that never finishes and just disappears some day."

The seals are all lining up quite nicely on the door. Doubt there will any issues with the windows. When the latches were in the original spot, the door would close properly only with the seals removed, therefore, I doubt I am going to have any further issues at all seeing as in how it is closing tightly with the seals as it sits currently, however, should I have some issues I am confident that I will come up with a proper solution. Truthfully, I think these could have been the wrong door latches (even though they came with the car).
