My first mod today....
As you folks are getting to know me, I have a bone stock (I thought) 1989 240SX SE Fastback with rusting hatch under the spoiler.
Well, I thought it was bone stock but my track times seem a shade fast compared to others times. KA24E. I started inspecting the engine carefully and it has obviously been torn down and rebuilt. The identifyer is the orange silicone all over the place. The owner had it bored 40 over based on a receipt I found. I could not find what piston set, crank or rings were used. The head was probably machined (shaved) and so was the block. Ok, for my first mod, I bought a K&N air filter. 45 bucks at autozone. I did it on a whim as when I had my ZR-1 Vette, it made a difference when I installed the new Air Filter. This is a mod I would recommend. You can feel the throttle response and the midrange torque winding up a little more aggressively. Usually, when I make a left turn onto my street, I wait for traffic to clear and soft launch first to about 10MPH and then I hit it and the tires grip and sing some from torgue right before I straiten up. Today, all hell broke loose just from torque. they broke free sending the speedo up to 35. No popping the clutch, just torque. I know that sounds radical but the tires were right on the edge of breaking loose before (done this dosens of times) and it was enough of an improvement to put it over the top. BTW, I did a full computer reset when I changed the filter..so the new FAM would be "noticed" I think this airfilter is definitly making a difference and with its lifetime guarantee, it is a no brainer. Anyone experienced an increase with one? I say it is proving to be a great investment so far. |

I felt the same thing when I installed my k&n stock replacement. Like you today I did my first major mod compared to just replacing the stock filter. I put in half of the injen CAI and also put on my blitz full-catback exhaust. Oh god, the exhaust sounds so beautiful compared to any exhausts I've heard before. The rumble is the lowest I've ever heard. The intake sounds so good starting at 3.5rpm. The sound to me is like how an opera sounds to a girl. It's that great

i have a k&n filtercharger system on my daily driven coupe. that combined with the brand new injectors i just installed and semi-fresh engine make for a decently powerered car. the coupe is what sparked my interest in the sohc, and why im building up my new fastback. that coupe with the 170psi compression its got can break the tires loose very easily. i used to run cheapo gas in it untill i found the benefits/cost of the premium. my car runs much better and stronger with better gas mileage using the premium. i can wait to see how the high-compression fastback is going to do. sohc should never be underestimated

I just recently got a k&n filter to to compliment my custom ram air intake and it is a pretty good upgrade. I didn't really want to spend the money, but felt better after I test drove it. When I usually make a left turn I usually lose traction( but that is probaly because my tires are getting bold).

What that would be a sweet discovery.. To find your engine is built, and if your running 14.8 in the 1320, it's gotta have some cams in there too. Does it have the stock exhaust, and intake piping? Suprising, that he would have rebuilt the motor, and not put aftermarket bolton bits on it..

the previous owner could have taken off the bolt ons and put on the stock parts. |
