Torque wrench

what do you guys recommend for torque wrench capacity. i was going to get a 1/2'' drive with 250lbs max capacity but my friend says 150ft/lbs should be enough for everything in the car..

is this true? are there any big bolts on the suspension or anywhere else that need torquing over 150ft/lbs? i just want to be safe before i buy one this weekend. and a torque wrench is a torque wrench right? i can just get a cheap one?

250 is more than you'll ever need. Get two wrenches, a big one and a small one. Big ones won't be as accurate at the lower torques, which is where you need to be the most precise.

speaking of digital torque werenches.. there is the craftsman digital one that i was planning to get. it retails at $99.99 but it has the 250lb/ft capacity .. the catalog says its craftsman's most accurate torque wrench.. thats why i was wondering if i should get the digital one or the normal $69.99 1/2'' drive torque wrench that goes up to 150lb/ft.

My philosophy on torque wrenchs is that mine goes up to 100 and anything requires more than 100 i just tighten it hard as i can and call it a day.

I bought a nice Kobalt torque wrench b/c I've bought the cheapo's from autozone before, and they broke after only 6-8 months of use.

So I got a 1/2" 150lb/ft kobalt unit. And a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter for the smaller stuff. Even with that, I often find myself wishing I had the smaller 3/8" torque wrench b/c the 1/2" one is so cumbersome.

Remember Torque wrenches aren't usually covered under the Lifetime warranties many Manufacturers supply.

I've never seen much need for digital torque wrenches, just more crap to break. Hell, I prefer using the old beam-type so I know where I'm getting it to (and I'm always afraid the clickity thing might break :P ). The torque wrench I use most is a Craftsman beam-type wrench. I have a cheapo- Kragen clickity one for higher torques.
