Long story short, I just bought my friend's car that has a number of mods (S14 car with S14 sr20 and all the goodies...).

During our last drift even it started blowing fuel pump fuses.

Bad pump? Maybe, I'm in the process of weeding some problems out.

It's a Walbro 255. When i turn the ignition on it doesn't really make a sound. Could the pump be dead? I got tired as poop today after pushing it onto the trailer (actually my friend and bro-in-law pushed mostly because "Ox" is a big bad dude...).

Is there any way to determine that the pump took a poop on me?

Also, I'm in the philly area...is there anywhere that I could pick up another walbro without ordering online? Sorry if there is any missing info, it's 3am and I"ve had a few "adult beverages"...

pull pump from tank
Verify there is a 12V signal at the pump
if there is verify you have a good ground
if there is then test with another pump and or replace pump.

Yeah my best bet is something is going on with the wiring (short) or the pump is frozen and causing your fuse to blow up. If the pump is frozen(stuck) or the spin is restricted it will still be getting the 12v, but because it can't spin freely it will draw an excessive amount of current causing your fuse to blow. Take the pump out, put it in a bucket of gasoline, make sure you have the hoses connected properly and apply 12v to it and see what happens. If you know how to use a dmm you can find out how much current it's drawing and compare it to the datasheet. Be extremely careful if you want to do this as a spark can ignite the bucket of gasoline. It happened to me once, good thing I had a fire extinguisher inside the car. Good luck

I'm going to pull the pump and try the gasoline/bucket test.

With a pump that is stuck/frozen, it there a way to free it? I'd hate to have to buy another one.

I wanted to mention that I didn't hear the thing clicking on but the wires were getting warm from too much load I suppose.

Any other tips?

Also, any tricks to getting that damn pump lid (what's it called?)unscrewed?

if your wires are getting warm there is too much current being drawn. You might want to check and look for a short in the wiring before taking the pump out. Start from the back to the front. You can also apply 12v to the pump while it is in the tank, just unplug it from the main hardness and use a fuel pressure gauge in the front fuel line to see your fuel pressure, it should be about ~43 PSI if the pump is working properly or you might just find out that the pump doesn't turn on when you apply the 12V. I'll suggest you take your car battery to the trunk, unplug the pump wiring hardness and apply 12v dirrectly to the pump. Use an in-line fuse (10A I think is factory) on the + wire from the battery and see what happens. Use like a 12gauge wire. There are many ways to do it, its up to you. Just make sure if you do apply 12v that you apply it to the right wires. Taking the lid off is tricky, use WD40 on the screws. Use a ratchet and be gentle, I broke two trying to take mine out.

If the pump is stuck just replace it, it's not worth it to try to fix it.
