KA is running shitty

hey guy's, i'm having a little bit of a problem on my girlfriends 240sx

(1991 240sx KA24DE Automatic 155K miles)

the car has been running rough for the last week to week and a half.

it seem's to be "missing" but we did plugs, and wires on it and that didn't do anything. car seems to be lacking some power but nothing major, haven't noticed any change in gas mileage. she usually runs the car on 87 but we ran a tank of 93 through it and that didn't seem to help it much. the car almost sounds like a WRX.

there are a few major holes in the exhaust so i thouhgt maybe a back pressure problem, but the car has died 2 times now, One time in park it just shut off, and another time in drive sitting at a stop light.

the car seems to idle at about 6-700 then drop down to about 400-500 and sometimes to about 200-300 and sometimes kicks back up. didn't know if it could be a cap/rotor? or if it's a fuel issue (bad injectors or a clogged fuel filter/screen?

the car hasen't thrown any CEL or anything so thats not being much help. i just don't want to throw money at it and it not be the problem since she is thinking of getting rid of it in the next few months.

thanks much.

just turn the car on and go disconnecting injector by injector, once you notice idle doesnt change when you disconnect an injector you found your baby.

could be a bad maf, disconnected the maf and forgot to put it on and runs rough. so give it a clean just in case. Its highly probable that its a leaky injector.

do the free things first.
as long as the exhaust leaks are after the o2, nothing to worry about.
check for vacum leaks.
clean your throttle body.
clean your mafs.

wrx sounds usually caused by injector going out. Try starting the car and unplug the injectors one by one and find which one is bad.

Run a bottle of chevron techron ultra concentrated through the next full tank, then for the next 5 fill ups use 4 ounces of marvel mystery oil in your gas tank. Usually thats a good UCL

new cap and rotor

My car's rpms would drop really low or die at a stop light and I took it to a Nissan tech. He replaced my brand new Auto Zone cap and rotor with a genuine nissan one and it was all good. He said the aftermarket one's are crap. Give it a try.

She took the car over to one of our friends who lives 5 min from her and he looked at it and said it was the cap and rotor, so she ordered the parts.

well, with his 35+ years in the automotive feild, plus his vast intelligence i trust him. he drove and heard the car run and he figured that's what it was, either way if it wasen't the cap and rotor is about $30 for both and those should be done anyway.

i'll let you know if that WASEN'T it.

my ka had a flooding probum, it would start once day unless i unpluged all the injectors and started the car, anyway one day out of nowhere i strt shooting smoke out the exaust and i lost power, i thought oh damn blew my head gasket, but it turned out to be a riped injector ring, i guess the dude who had the car before me installed it wrong it was loose in the rail, so after shifting around it just riped i guess. went and pocketed some altama injectors and slaped those bitches in an it ran again woot. hope my supid story helps
