HOLY SHIST r coilovers getting expensive, but are they really worth it?

Dear god, I was bored, and cruising through hks's site, when I remembered taniguchi, being the pimp that he is , has the hipermax D coilovers. So me being the mindless conformer to the jdm driftaz(or so I wish), figured I see how much it cost for a set of them for the 240sx... well...

DEAR GOD!!!

This might be old news for everybody, but when have coilovers gotten close to 3K????? Just bored and wanted to be a mini postwhore.

Jason

Well, better coilovers have always approached the 3,000 dollar mark. The one's I'm looking at getting (Zeal Function S6) are about $2,500.00. As for whether you need them or not... it really depends on what your goal is for the car. Personally, I don't think I need them in any way, but I just really want them. I'm trying to build my car up to be as amazing as I can possibly afford. If you're really looking for cost effective performance, though, a really good match of springs and good shocks / struts will go pretty far. Especially if you don't have the need for height adjustability (which is one of the reasons I want coilovers). I'm sure dousan, our resident suspension genious, will have more to say on the subject however.

But what makes em so great????? Is it because its rebuildable, 30 way dampener, and dual chambered shocks? If so, what do all those do, I'd guess make it more stiff of a setup...

Not all coil-overs are that expensive. The Hipermax D have always been more expensive than most other coil-overs. There are less expensive options that work fine for cars that are raced regularly.
