Sold the S14

Well guys, and gals, I sold my '95 S14 SE this past Friday. I really hated to see it go , but maybe I will be able to find a 96-98 5-speed. I'm also looking at '86~'87 944's. To me, this model Porsche seems like another fun car, and I know what I'm talking about!

Well...as long as your plans are in order...it is just a car...but many people regret later on the absense of their old 240SX>

As far as Porsches' go...can't you find a 911 in the 83 to 84 range with around 80K on it for around 10 to 12K??

Every 944 I drove was a dog...even later models (sorry) and they have a tendency to catch on fire. I personally know 3 owners of them that lost them to fire. Electrical, combustable and of all things, sabotage.

Good luck in your future.

Drive a 911. Whole different level.

Bill,

I'm not a big fan of the older 911's, and prefer a FR setup. From the specs I've seen, the 944 doesn't seem slow (the 924 is a different story), as long as you have a turbo (aka 951). The '87 turbo's have more power than the '86's. More than power, though, the handling characteristics (as well as the look of the body) has piqued my interest, at least for now.

I see, well, I thought surely he wasn't giving me that little credit in my 240 knowledge. After all, I did have a '95.

I am looking at '96-'98 to avoid OBDI emissions system of the 95's, but again, not really a big deal since it's difficult enough finding the S14 that I want.

If you are even thinking of the 87 944 you should pass.
Market value=$2500 tops in cherry condition. i.e. does not retain value
repair costs=$$$$$$ seriously guy you may know the cars based on specs but when it comes to matinence and repairs 944's as well as 911's are not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. In fact it will cost you 5 times more than the cost of the car to get the engine rebuilt or even buy parts and do it yourself.
Unless your wealthy and have lots of cash to throw around don't go there.
If you seriously do like the 944 then you should be looking at a S13 hatch because its in the same weight catagory. You will pay the same price it will retain its value and you can put a SR in or turbo a KA for less than rebuilding your beloved 944 and it will kick the 944's ass . Yes S13 hatchs are that good .89 on the skidpad stock with suspension they are G+ machines add bigger brakes and a turbo engine and its bye bye.
944's have no value because your basically buying a car that should have been made in Japan and has the Porsche name so your getting stuck with a automatic expensive parts price tag.
Word, your going to buy a Porsche? 911's or 914's (914's are go karts )
