KA 95 240sx Car won't start and most electronics won't work...:(

I have a base 240sx (95) with a bumped up timing ( a couple of noches), but that's all i have done to it.

The problem is my car would not start and when I try to, I wouldnt hear any sounds. When I try to turn on my head lights, only my corner lamps and my tail lights come on. My gauge lights come on and the radio, power windows, and sunroof DOES NOT WORK...........

I've checked the fuses and they are fine, I already pulled the battery out and I put my bro's battery in (from his 93 240sx) and it still wouldnt turn over or anything.

So, would anybody know what this problem is?

From the research i've done, I think it is the alternator but I still have doubt and i'm just trying to make sure what the problem is and how would I correct this problem.

any specific info would be truly appreciated..

Thanks everyone for reading.

The alternator is bad when your car can't hold a charge. Somehow get a volt meter and start the car and see if the voltage slowly drops or take the alternator to pepboys.

If the motors not making that click sound from the ignition it means theres probably not enough current to even get the starter going (dead battery) but since your lights still work it's most likely something else.

Are you sure it's not the 12v fuse? Or the ignition fuse?

If those are still good it sounds like you have my problem and theres a short in the wiring someplace. Poke around the steering trim and see if theres anything crossing or sparking.

This same thing happened to a buddy of mine's supra. Check your fusible link. It is the wire comming of your starter that powers the rest of the car. If the insulation on the wire is bubbly or seems to have burnt up you need a new fusible link. It costs about 8 bucks to replace, because it is about a foot long piece of special wire.

ok thanks for the input.

Does anybody have anymore ideas? I will change my starter and the fusible link and see what happens.

a couple more questions, ok.... the fusible link comes out of the starter? What does it connect to (in order to power the rest of the car)? And is the fusible link a plug-n-play or is it splicing type?

thanks for all the help guys.

usually with fuseable links if its bad, then u wont get any power to anything regardless of a good battery or not. And your alternator has nothing to do with your car not starting, hell u can take ur alternator off, disconnect it, etc, and the car would still start as long as u had enough juice to turn it over, i would say fuses, and/or short in the wiring

I read his post wrong, I thought nothing was working. If your lights work its not the fusible link.

I would be very doubtful that either your alternator or starter is your problem. I don't have a wiring diagram in front of me, but I'd guess you need an ignition switch. In most cars, its the only thing common to the electrical systems you mentioned. The switching power for your window relay, headlight relay, and starter relay all come from the ignition switch. The power for your guages, radio, and parking lights do as well.... If your igntion switch is broken, the situation you describe can certainly happen....
