Buying Nissan Silvia

This is my first time on the forums, so just trying to get a hang of it.
I'm in the market for a Nissan Silvia, and only willing to spend a max of about $10k on the base car itself, so i'm wondering where's a good place to look? (Live in Perth, Australia btw)

Also, i will be spending about $500 a week on it to modify it a bit, so i'm wondering what is the better Exhaust Systems (including Extractors), POD Filter to get done at the start (Looking for quality, not cheapness).

Later on, when i can actually get insurance, How much will a single turbo kit cost?

Lastly, what year would be better for a Nissan Silvia?

If you want a silvia... good luck getting in legalized. If you want a 240sx however, and convert that into a "silvia" look-a-like then you can start looking locally, newspaper, autotrader, cars.com, ebaymotors.com too, whatever u want.

Dude he is in Aussie, i think silvias were imported there, and if not i know its not to hard to legalize them there, or he could get a 200sx(a 240sx in Aussie)coupe, and convet it to silvia

There's stacks of Silvia's though, not saying its hard to get one, just saying i wanna find the best one for the right price.

So can you tell me the answer to my other questions anyway?

As far as exhaust systems, since your planning on a turbo setup, try looking at the Apexi line on their website http://www.apexi-usa.com/ They have the GT-Spec exhaust for extreme turbos and the N1-Dual (mine!! ) for the less extreme street applications. Apex is a 240 favorite and good bang for your buck if you ask me.
Also check out enjukuracing.com for good deals on Apexi and many other types of exhausts.

If what you say is true and you have an abundance of "Silvias" just lying around in Aussie(Oh I'd be in heaven) then they should come with the SR20DET engine setup which is already turbo. If not then some of the "safer" turbo setups run anywhere from 2300 to 4000, depending on how much power you want. Enjukuracing.com has 2 turbo kits for the "240sx" (American version of a Silvia with a different engine-KA24DE) that you should check out.

As far as what year silvia to buy? Any year from 89-98 would be ideal for fun RWD driving. The 89-94 S13 Fastback(hatchback) model is my personal favorite just from the look, but the 95-98 S14 is the model I have and the handling and sheer fun factor is great for the buy. They also have the 2 door coupe S13 model which I've always heard is the one with the most potential as far as improveing the driving experience. The newer s14 will probably run you about 3 to 4 grand more than the S13 but you do get what you pay for, newer car, lower miles(hopefully). But from what I've seen the s13 Fastback has far more external modification possiblilites than the others. Hope this helps.

Well, in the US, an s13 can go for anywhere from 2,000 to 4000 USD. An S14 can range from 5000 to 10000, it all depends on who's selling it and if they know what it is they're selling. I had an experience once where this small dealership got a 97 s14 with no mods from a Las Vegas auction. Car was in pristine condition and it was a manual with 33,000 miles. He priced it at 8500 in his ad before he even got it on the show floor. I was th 4th guy to call him about it on the first day of the ad and he sold it by the 3rd day. He told me he was kicking himself after he posted the ad cause someone told him what he could've gotten for it. I was pissed it wasn't me diving off the lot with it. But anyways.

First look at all the models available, pick your target and then go out and start finding prices. Don't forget that a really cheap buy isn't always the best one. I'd say spending 4000 on a mid 90's s13 is a pretty safe deal, but make sure you check the car out to find any "hidden" or cover-up problems the seller is trying to pull off.

As far as the exhaust and pod filters go I would buy the blitz nur-spec racing exhaust (catback of course - not axleback). It has the best power gains out of all the other exhausts I believe (14hp at the wheels). If you want to release even more power potential from the exhaust system you should replace your catalytic converter with a 3" high-flow one or just toss the cat. and replace it with a 3" test pipe. Also, you could replace the downpipe w/ the blitz 3" ss one and then replace the turbo outlet with the greddy model. As far as the pod filters go I'm happy with the hks super mega flow intake I have. The Apex'i z32 intake upgrade kit would be another good option.
