Good work, Copernicus.

Make sure it's getting fuel AND spark to all 4 cylinders.

Yup, my car killed injector #3 last year. It's a common problem.

its probably your Distributor rotor and cap. That was the source of my problem when I had that.

when i got the boxer sound it was due to a wire backing out of one of the injector plugs. re-pinned that wire and ran clean

I'm assuming its KA since he said he pulled spark plug wires. Possibilities: spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel injector, or a problem i personally experienced: fuel injector harness. Try wiggling the clip that goes to that injector while its running and if the idles jumps it could be that. Take the clip off and inspect it for any corrosion or a burnt look

I had a similar problem prior to doing my swap and had a bad injector on the KA, I would start there for sure.

One more vote for injector here.

If not that, then its definitely the muffler bearings.

could be a loose or damaged MAF wire.

but bad injector or coil pack sounds right.

You could test injector #3 with a multimeter on ohms or get a long screwdriver and put the metal end directly on the injector and listen to see if you can hear it cycling.

^ With him on that one. Try a Noid Light. Ka hanresses connectors like to rot out and turn green. I wilgled my connectors on the injectors and would affect the idle. I had to buy all new EV1 style connectors and solder them into my harness to get rid of that. Now im having trouble with one of my exhuast camshaft rockers. when The hydrolic tappet smashes down on me, The car sounds just like a "WRX" lol

I'm having a very similar issue. It usually only does it when there is a lot of moisture in the air like when it rains. I can smell gas coming out of the exhaust while it's misfiring so I'm assuming its an ignition or maf problem or maybe egr but I havent had time to diagnose let alone where to start. Any ideas?

Didnt know this was such a common problem? Or maybe its because these cars are getting older and older..not sure. I think one of mine is stuck open as my fuel economy is in the toilet but I'll be taking care of that soon.
