spun rod bearings sr20det

Hi guys i got a little question if you can help..... my engine is going out, bad compression and etc.... I found one engine that has some upgrades: pistons, rings, head gasket for only 700 but has 2 spun rod bearings.....

Question one what makes rod bearings go bad?

Question two how much or haw hard is to replace them yourself?

Question tree is it a good deaL?

well oil starvation , improper installation are usually the reasons why your bearings took a shit
make sure the oil pump isnt shot
not very hard if you have the motor out the car

i think its a good deal because a have a sr short block in my basement
i can swap out a crank shaft and some rods if they are dunzo

This,

Ether it ran dry or the bearings weren't sized properly. If it is an oiling problem there could be more damage to fix along with fixing the bearings. It could be just that they screwed the sizing and/or installation when they upgraded the pistons.

Pulling the caps and inspecting the bearings to see why they went bad is not to hard. There are guides online on how to read the wear to determine why they failed. If the rod bearings are gone but the mains are fine. I would think it is the install. Check the crank and caps for round and size and replace.

I would only get it if you are willing to part it out or rebuild the bottom end. When you pull the caps and all the bearings are galled to hell from no oil and the crank is out of round from running with shot bearings.
