power steering issues

so i have put in awhile back( almost alil over half a year) an isis ss power steering line for my car, the stock one was leaking and instead of going oem again i decided to go after market and try out the ss one on the isis site, i did notice a bigger difference in the performace on turns. the main issue is im having leaking coming from my rack where the ss line connects, when i first put it on it leaked so i put on a rubber gasket and stoped the problem for a little bit but did not fix it completly. i have gone through a couple of gaskets and tryied copper gas. to see if it would stop it, but every time it just wont stop leaking. is there any other solution? i was thinking of putting a little rtv on there to see if it would stop it. i really want to get this fixed cuz im tired of coming to a stop and seeing a bunch of smoke coming from the driver side( fluid keeps hitting the lower half of the exs. manifold)

p.s im using atf dex 3 for fluid and all the other lines are stock eccept for the main ss line

The part that actually sticks into the rack, did it come with an o-ring?

not on the bottom of the threads, but on the skinny nipple part.

go get an injector o ring and stick it on the end of it and screw it back in.



that is, if you are missing that o ring

I'm with Neiko on this one. Here's a picture to illustrate what the O-Ring should look like:



Also, any time I do any PS work on my cars, I always use some sort of Power Steering Stop-Leak when I reassemble everything. The Lucas Product seems to be the best on the Market and is the only one I can remember off the top of my head. It's really good for sealing up tiny/small leaks.

ya i keep on replacing the o ring with new ones, ive tried putting a o-ring on the connecting surface (rack and line). but there still is a leak, is there any other brand that is a lil better than isis? just tired of having this keep on leaking( plus im using atf for my fluid)

I had a leak on the exact same fitting

I tried copper crush washers, 3 different AN adapters, liquid sealant, etc

TEFLON TAPE fixed it, 2 years later still no leaks

JapSlap - why do you say it shouldn't be used?

My guess would be because they're flared lines
the tips put together is what gives you the seal (just like brake lines)
the threaded part just keeps everything in place
leaks usually means a loose connection, kinks or gunk

on a note, s14 steering racks do away with this monstrous configuration

thanks, but i remember seeing some where that there is a metal washer with rubber inside that seals it.( lookes like a rubber washer inside a metal one) i cant remember where i saw it but i remember that it worked great, i looked on summit but didnt find it. does any one know what im talking about?

I thought the S13 and S14 were the same other than bushings and tie rod ends, no? Is the hydraulic line mounting different?

Agreed, that is the way it SHOULD be, and the way it comes stock

But when I put a stainless line on, I couldn't find an o-ring -AN adapter that was deep enough. Earls, Russel, etc were all too short to bottom out on the edge it's supposed to seal on.

JapSlap - why do you say it shouldn't be used?

teflon is designed for tapered threads only, ie NPT.

AN/JIC fittings seal with the 37* flare.

straight fittings or parallel thread need a crush washer.

the seal that you would prob need in liu of a typical crush washer is called a "stat-o-seal" in which it has a buna rubber seal as well as a crush washer.

Thank you!!! No i know the name brand for the washer. Ive seen them before and they work excellent for what i need, thanks again!!! Will pic some up in a week when i get paid
