Electrical Problems/newb at wiring

The motor on my antenna stopped working so I bought this supposedly Universal-fit antenna from Kragen and tried putting it on. Taking off the old antenna was easy but the new antenna's motor looked nothing like the old one. It is much smaller and i just thought, oh, it's probably newer technology er something and ghetto rigged it on. I crossed my fingers and turned on the deck to see if the antenna works or not. Nothing happened so i try using the motor on my old antenna with the new one and try turning on the deck one more time.
This time my deck doesn't even turn on, neither does the antenna. For some reason, my cabin light and my little clock on the dash stop functioning as well. I'm really new to wiring and all that stuff and believe my ingenious ideas blew a fuse er something somewhere. Right now i have the antenna disconnected and I want to know if the deck is supposed to be able to turn on even if the antenna setup is disconnected. I'm hoping that getting an exact replacement antenna from nissan will fix everything. =/
Please no flames, just want to get this fixed asap. If anyone has any advice or if they've fiddled with the antenna on an 89-94 sohc before, please post. thanks.
