Auto Schools I am looking at

Ok there are two schools School of Automotive Machinist www.samracing.com, and Universal Technical School www.uticorp.com. Quick description of the schools. Samracing will teach me everything about increasing engine performance but nothing else about a car. From there I can get on with a bunch of diffrent employers http://www.samracing.com/docs/employers.htm UTI will teach me everything that I need to know about working on cars to become an ASE mechanic and has courses with major auto makers such as BMW Mercedes and Porshce and so on and I can make mad cash working at dealerships. They also have a Hot Rod program and that will go over a whole bunch of stuff but only in 9 weeks and is bolt on stuff only. Now I dont know what exactly I want to do. I would like to get into the performance industry which samracing could get me into, but yet I would also like to learn how to work on everything on a car. Anyway if you were to go to one of the schools what would end up doing and why? Thanks for your input.

i went to UTI, it is pretty good. youre best bet if you want to get into the business is to apprentice at a dealership or high end shop. you need to pay attn at work and do research on your own time. the school helps but i thought it was a little bit of a waste of money.

I have a friend going to UTI and he loves it. He is debating doing their hot rod program. I think they advertise that on TV now.

I would go there if I had the time and money.

I went and looked at the Houston campus last thursday. Yeah I thought that was really nice with the 55% of snap on tools. Plus they have the mercedes program there and damn it was nice walking into that room all those 125k cars sitting around...

christopher
about the hotrod program I am just not to sure about that cause the coarse is 9 weeks long and what you do in it is build up a chevy small block and hook it up to a t bucket then put it on the dyno. the class is all about bolt ons. I am still trying to figure out what I am going to do.

If your looking to specialise in a particular area I would suggest electrical repair, thats usually where the most money is, also all the newer cars have a lot more computer controled crap thats going to need fixing at some point and time.

if you want electrical repair, you need to go to ITT.

electrical/electronics at these schools is about 6 weeks of training max.
