hey dont bust on me because i am from PA. So what if there isnt any shops around my area that know anything, all they know is SB chevy BB chevy, but hey PA is the home of the Yenko Camaro, Chevelle and Nova. Anyway, so u think it wll be cool not to tell them about the SR. I called the insurance comany and asked if they had a SR20det, and the lady was like ummmm then said hold plz, and then the bitch hung up on me.

Uhhh, don't let the insurance company know you have an illegal engine. That is a BAD idea. He wasn't cracking on you because you're from PA, he was just saying that PA authorities aren't nearly as anal about illegal engines. For instance, in PA, a cop isn't gonna know the visual differences between a KA and SR, and chances are, they won't even ask you to pop your hood in PA. So don't screw yourself over by telling insurance companies or law enforcement that you have an illegal engine.

I think he said it was state farm...

you could just say its the SR20DE, since it is an engine that exists in the states
just leave the "T" out of it

the blue book value of your car probably isnt that high. so what's the point of reporting an engine change. if something happens to the extent of engine damage, your car will probably be totalled anyways.

you could just say you put a new engine in and you want to insure it and its worth X amount of dollars. Say its a crate motor. or a turbo charger on it. cost about the same. you will be paying them more either way.
I would stay away from saying its illegal. |

I live In Va beach, VA, and my SR20 is covered......I pay a little extra for it but in my opinion its worth it.......Your insurance has nothing to do with the law......You dont have to tell your insurance company shit.....But if you wanted to you wouldnt have a problem as well......I dunno do what you think you should but make sure you cover your ass......Full coverage insures anything that is bolted to the car.......(this would include the engine.) So good luck.......

Insurance rules change from state to state. The best thing to do is call other companies in your area and ask for quotes. Tell them your interested in doing a motor swap on your car and would like to know how you could insure it or what your options are. You could also just insure the car for X amount of dollars and the premium accordingly (not sure of the technical term for this). Had the same problem in NC and was told that all I could really do if something happens to my car is tell the adjuster and keep receipts and hope he feels like paying out for my mods....Good luck!
