I let the car steer itself allot more now, with stock caster its really hard to do that.
It has a bit to do with the setup, but I would definitely not say "more" to do with setup. The driver is far more critical in driving smoothly. If that was the case there would be a lot more smooth drivers out there, but there aren't. I mean there's always the decent driver who does a good job of predicting what the car will do and so he isn't trying to force the car into something, but if you watch videos of Taniguchi driving, he might as well be chilling on a couch while driving, he looks like he's hardly doing anything while nailing every entrance, apex and exit.

Interior shots starts at 3 min. Particularly the handbrake entry at 3:25.

Hmmm, hand brake entry with no clutch in, interesting. He's soooo smooth.

age old question
did the research but still have some questions, figured this thread would suffice

with a 1.5 way, if you do a nasty ebrake entry and let off the ebrake will it suddenly grip, clutch still in, or can you still slide a little bit?

Had to do some digging, since I remembered those cameras from some videos that Alexi from Noriyaro posted on his blog a long ass time ago. Still don't know what it's called, but I believe it's the cameras shown in the beginning of this video. Excuse the sound.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MO0DDefcACo

Then again it doesn't film quite the same either. I dunno then.

EDIT: Yeah, that's entirely different, I thought the tube part was just part of the mount or something.

i've tried 0 toe for both front and rear before. i felt that it's not so stable in the freeway. ALso the fact that my car slightly pulls to the right, i might try very little toe in..like .03

I use 17" wheels for drifting, both front and rear. So once i do swap to drift wheels, the alignment get messed anyways..lol i roll 19" daily.

I do remember in one of the older doriten video when Taniguchi explains his handbrake, he says he pulls it just enough to slow the car down and initiate, but not enough to lock up the wheels b/c then it'll look less awesome to the judges and they'll dock points off. he called it a "shuru-shuru-saido". Iirc, kazama also did the same technique.

and if that didn't explain it enough, you watch him hit the brakes....pivots the front enough to let the rear lose a little traction, and when he turns in, it looks like he's just trying to slow down the rear rather than lock it up. Almost like he's only trying to brake on the rear tires.

In my head...all that does is bring his line in (for a front apex)

Swapping from 19's to 17's makes zero different in alignment, as long as you aren't raising / lowering your car from the coilovers.

By nature, little toe and/or wide wheels makes your car tram-line on the freeway/road. Just comes with the territory.

for next season I will, I only have 7.3 caster and I still scrub the shit out of the wells.

alignment is all about trial and error

going up to 7.5 soon then 7.8 then maybe a full 8 if it still feels good

Which is what he's doing, going for a front apex. Interesting, might wanna give that a try next time.

I run this alignment spec on my S13, this is done by Toshiki Yoshioka himself at DriftSpeed and um, I think it's safe to say he knows what he's doing :-)

I would bump you caster up to like 7.5 and see how you like it.

Looks to me like nothing was changed but the camber on the front right matched to the front left and then fixed the toe.

Part of the reason the alignment isn't as "extreme" as some is that I'm running stock KA :-). I had a slightly different set up on my 2JZ and yes caster in the rear exept for daily tire wear... my daily tire tread went down quicker than kim kardashian at a NAACP meet.

edit: Also no not much was changed from that because it was already good but I had adjusted the rite high and bumped it up a bit.

more caster up front isn't going to affect tread wear all the much and won't give you issues with an underpowered car. its going to help your transitions

I don't really understand the effects of negative caster in drifting. I can understand for the front but not for the rear. More negative caster increases the wheels natural camber when turning, so for driving I would "figure" that the rears set at 0 for most loss of traction would be optimal... Unless your running a high power car and using grippy tires like formula D / ProAM level then I can see the camber:grip coming in favor.. I don't know maybe a professional can enlighten me. Thanks :-)

Caster has nothing to do with tire wear at all. Caster only affects how the car drives/steers.

Since i dont really have the option to drift much since i cant afford track, gas, or part fees. i usually look a videos of interior and i try to predict what the drive is gonna do and over time you start to know what they are going to do in certain sitchuations so when your behind the wheel youll have an idea.. thats my plan atleast lol.
