tried 2 new beers today and both SUCKED



Belhaven Scottish Ale - F (at best)
terrible, tastes like coors light. I normally LOVE scottish beers (brewdog, skull splitter) but this is just terrible.

Supposed to be a belgian abbey ale but I couldn't tell since it really didn't taste like anything. It had a decent head and some okay lacing and smelled dark and fruity but the flavor just was not there.

Just attended Three Floyds 15th Anniversary party yesterday and got these.


First is the XV. Baller Stout, a blend of Surly Darkness, Mikkeller’s Beer Geek Brunch, De Struise’s Black Albert, and Three Floyds own Dark Lord Imperial Stout


Also grabbed a Conquistador Porter, which is a barrel aged porter brewed with chiles


And stocked up on more Zombie Dust and Behemoth (which is Three Floyds seasonal Barley wine)

its a great stout if you love hops, but for me the hops overpower the malt so its not very stoutish

Some good stuff from the past week on tap:

Flying Dog - Raging Bitch A
This is damn tasty. Nice hop taste, but nothing overwhelming. Little hot on the booze, but so darn good.

Left Hand - Fade To Black Vol 3 B+
Not a bad tasting Stout, but I wanna try Vol 1 and 2 as well with this. Still very drinkable for the ABV

Lancaster Shoofly Pie Porter (Nitro) B
Not a bad beer, I think the Nitro really helped it out thought. Would be interested to try it on co2 first.

Bottle wise:
2011 Troegs Mad Elf A
'11 is light years better than '10, and has the Elf back on form. Boozy, cherries, and goodness. Kinda odd to see it out so soon, but I couldn't resist it!

2008 Troegs Mad Elf A
A little 'calmer than this years, but still good. The fresh cherry taste has faded to a more sedated taste, and overall it's very good. to be honest you can'kinda' tell it's the same beer, but only if you were told. Aging has changed the beer...for the better? Well yes...but '11 is so damn good it's hard to overcome it.

Ithica - Cold Front B
Nice little Weizenbock. Nothing to write home about, but would drink again. Sessionable!


And the best beer this week (which we had at the release, but my first bottle since then)

Weyerbacher - Rapture A kinda+


Sour Goodness from Weyerbacher! While I still like Riserva more, this is a darn good close 2nd...no fruity taste, just pure funky sour goodness! Quick on the tounge, yet the tastebuds will explode regardless with this. Little pricey, but so darmn good. Perfect End to a great week.

Just had one of these last night, pretty damn good and quite heavy on the alcohol!

And a Stone Smoked Porter tonight. I highly discourage new beer drinkers to try it, but for the seasoned dark beer fan it is a must!

I'm from Stroudsburg actually. For beers in town I goto Floods on Main Street as they have a great selection. I also goto Easton quite a bit and visit Black n Blue (belgian style bar), Porters (Nice English Pub) and occasionally go into Allentown to Liberty Street Tavern.

When I go up North to Scranton I check out Backyard Ale house and Coopers.

Rare Vos typically comes in 4 packs of 12oz'. Good stuff for sure, I love it with really spicey wings.

The label is a little messed up, but it's a very special beer. It's the very first brown sugar they made in 2006. My very good friend's uncle owns the brewery. I will be drinking it this Christmas

This is a great tasting brew, but after about halfway through the bottle I couldnt stomach it anymore. Too sweet and rich.

Well the past day/today is always a 'quantity' holiday but managed to have a few decent ones in the early stages. This weekend will only get better.

Yesterday's Standouts:

Unibroue: Trois Pistoles A
This beer has and will forever be one of my favorites. Unsure on what part I love the most of this, I honestly think it may just be the nice end to this beer...it's all around baller in my book: Big flavor, nice style, hidden booze, and easily found. Canadien's do Belgians well!

Anderson Valley - Winter Solstice A
We were splitting up some of the new Xmas beers amongst 3 friends, and this one was easily the standout. Cherrys/Spices right up front in the nose, and in the taste, however not overpowering in booze nor the often overused 'cherry juice' flavor. Just a super good Winter Warmer that can be enjoyed for an evening (at 6.5% IIRC) vs just 1 or 2 (like Mad Elf)

Sam Adams - Chocolate Cherry Bock B+
While many scoff at Sam Adams for being 'too big' or 'too reserved' with their regular **** (and they really are), I can say that their new small batch/select series stuff is great! This was no exception. Admittantly I'm not a huge Chocolate Fan in beer, so I may be harsch on the rating, but it was good. Imagine Chocolate covered Cherrys, in a bock...it was good. 7% ABV but the overall mouthfeel was VERY heavy/thick. We had this at the end of last night and it was a nice end to a great night out with the old boys. Unsure on how available this is, so get it if you can



Tonight....well I've got 2 Mad Elf's in my now, and have a '09 Weyerbacher Heresey and Insanity in the Fridge, as well as a '10 Weyerbacher Riserva (the super sour one). It's gonna be a fun night with some good beers while (how lame) Cleaning the house. Yes, domesticated me.

I havent had a bad beer from unibrou, although I prefer 'fin du monde'
their most interesting beer ive tried has got to be le terrible.
hard to drink too much of it & I've never been able to find any food heavy enough to pair with it.

Give me just about any stout. There is a local brewery that makes some awesome beer. I like a good hef. Also. But not much of an ipa fan. I can drink one or to easy though. I hate how some beer names leave you guessing as to how dark of beer it really is and u buy a 8 dollar six pack and only drink one and then not like it. Sometimes I mix and match six packs lol
