AC removal

So i know its dangerous to remove the lines of the AC compressor unless youve previously had it discharged

im not sure if the AC has been discharged or not (just bought the car) but i was wondering if its ok to disconnect the lines at the fire wall here whether or not the system has been discharged

any help or guidance..appreciated

thanks

either hook up a gauge or locate a charge port and push the shreader valve down with a small screw driver to check.

Be sure to wear safety glasses or look away

Be sure to not throw the lines away or to damage them! Plenty of people putting AC on their SR20's are looking for the lines

Nice Yea you can remove them there, just (as stated above) do it slowly. Imagine it's a preshaken bottle of soda or something...low and slow, and let it come out that way.

I never considered that, with the cost of R134a, it may be worth asking a shop if they want it. The price of that stuff has skyrocketed for sure

those instructions were for checking the system only, Not to discharge the system.

Although R-134 currently have No Known Neg affects to the OZone but yes it is still illegal with fines up to $27,500 per day per violation. The EPA can also award up to $10,000 to the person who notificed them of the violation if the person releasing the refrigerant is convicted.

But whatev's

some places will only credit your freon, other places wont cuz they say they have to filter or clean the freon or some shit. Total bullshit though

To answer your question I just found the valve and let it out. It is next to the radiator near the intake with a green cap. I don't know if it is necessary, but I figured better safe than sorry.

On the freon subject if you take it to AutoZone, pep boys, or some other company like that they will buy the freon from you.

Thanks for all the help guys, unfortunately I did not buy the car in running condition and have since removed the motor, in plans to swap in my SR, soo its not easy for me to bring the car anywhere to have shop take care of this issue for me, unless theyre willing to come to me

for now i guess ill locate that valve and test it to see if its charged or not and hope it isnt, if it is...i guess I'll just have to figure out a way to properly discharge it myself or have an expert handle the job

If it is charged you can install the motor and just secure the compressor in some fashion to the chassis (Zie Ties) then drive it to a shop and they can discharge it.
They can discharge it without it running.
