s13 hatch driver window doesnt go down or move

my friends s13 hatchback is a 1990, his driveside window wont go down and is stuck at the up position, its been like this ever since he bought it. we took off the door panel and we can see the gears moving when we press the button. The right gear seems really loose but still spins, my other friend says the motor is busted. Has anyone got this problem? is it easy to fix? and is it only the motor messed up or the whole regulator too?

Check the window regulator.

It's possible the cable guide that controls the up/down movement of the window may have jammed. Pulling out the window regulator and the motor is pretty easy. A rachet & a 8/10/12/14 mm socket set should suffice. It's an easy fix. Just make sure you take the window out before you start...makes life a hell of a lot easier!! Once you get everything out, then you can test the motor to make sure it's working properly. Those things hardly ever burn out. Sure it's not the switch??
Anyhow, HTH...
