Sweet ass Z Brakes upgrade! (Aftermarket)

http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg...d&msg_id=68943

That is an excellent price and I think I'm going to consider putting that on the S14 when it do the 5-lug. 750 and it includes the brackets. Underground sells their kit for about that price and granted it includes the lines, but is a smaller rotor and is of 1-piece construction. This is a lighterweight rotor and larger, which means SEXY! Just came across it and thought I'd share it with you guys, looks like a great upgrade for us.

Its nice....but I will stick with smaller rotors (and piece my kit)....I want to be able to use my stock rims during winter time.

Its a waste of money. Why spend 1k$ on a z32 caliper setup when you can get Rotora setup for another coupe hundred.

indeed. Rotora seems to be the better choice when you get up that high.

is the rotora 6pot or bigger 4pot? i think the rotors are decently priced at 750. its still expensive, but when you consider other 13'' rotor options there aren't much out there. you can get the underground package and vr4 rotors but vr4 aftermarket rotors are rare and cost about 300-350 and another 200 for brackets and components.

for the price, its bang for your buck. consider the project mu scr-pro 2 piece rotors. they are two piece cost about 650, and probably higher quality than this no name brand kit but the scr-pro are stock z32 size. maybe they make a vr4 version but the z32 project mu scr-pro 2 piece rotors are still 11''. this kit comes with 13'' 2 piece rotors and also comes with mounting bracket and nismo long studs. they come with nismo 50mm studs which i assume are required since the aluminum rotor hat probably sits further out than stock. i wonder if they will consider including the nismo 60mm for people with spacers. i might consider it, but 750 is still a lot of money compared to cross/drilled slotted brembos i can get for 150 or brembo blanks for 50-60. but if you think about it, its a pretty good deal and bang for your buck. good alternative to ppl wishing to do the vr4 rotor upgrade.

also, iirc the rotora kit retails for 2000-2100. the best price ive seen it for is 1600 on a gb a few months ago. so thats more like another 1000 more. not a couple hundred more. you figure the zbrakes cost 150 and ss lines cost 100 and pads another 50? maybe the whole setup is closer to 1000 but rotora is still a 2000 kit and even if you can get it for a steal lik 1600 thats still several hundred dollars more, not a few hundred more.

I just finished putting a custom brake package together, and these guys are probably not making a whole of $$$ on that kit.

You could do the same if you were feeling crafty:

http://www.wilwood.com/products.asp

http://www.precisionbrakescompany.com/index.asp

Parts alone on that setup is close to $500 with out the brackets, using wilwood 4 pot dynalites, or maybe an older AP 300 4 pot caliper with 13.5 in rotors and aluminum hats would run you about $700... but you have to make your own brackets.

to really take advantage of an upgrade like that, you need a brake proportioning valve. otherwise you will end up under utilizing the rear brakes.

what is a brake proportioning valve? how out those ppl who buy those expensive big brake kits (ie. brembo gran turismo, endless, ap racing, rotora, etc.) do those high quality kits come with a brake proportioning valve?

what if you get the z32 rear 2pot caliper upgrade? will the brakes still be under utilize? im just wondering..

He just really loves hand lotion. I heard he buys it by the 55-gallon drum and has it trucked in to his house...
BTW, Osc hit me up next time you're on aim... haven't talked to you in ages yo.

Brake proportioning valves, as I understand them, allow you to control to proportion of front brake power to rear brake power. I'm not exactly sure how, but I believe that it's done by diverting line pressure. For example, you could set them so that 67% of the braking is done by the front brakes, or maybe you only want 25%, or 99%. It allows you to fine tune the braking characteristics of the car to your liking...

What your describing is really Bias control ala this:

basic pro valve:

http://www.wilwood.com/TJM/valves/Kn...,-260-2220.jpg

and will only Decrease line pressure so it would have to be tied into the front brake circuit ( use the abs front single out on the MC then pro valve then "T" it left and right).

This is my new hydraulic Ebrake BTW, pretty nifty it goes in series with te rear brake circuit and in normal braking fluid bypasses it. however for ebrake operation a shuttle valve closes when you begin to pull the lever, then it acts as an hand actuated MC for the rear circuit only.

In the end the whole rear setup will be far lighter than the Z32 setup im using now.

Salty: I lost all my contacts hit me up on aim (Ahhsk), any links to the new LL Bean womens coats?

so all ppl who upgrade zbrakes should get a brake proportioning valve? b/c this kit seems like it only moves the calipers outward.

thats because you have too much front brake bias.

For those of you actually interested in the above upgrade, it's not too hard. I'm 4 pins away from getting everything on the car. As for Z1's kit.

$10 - 3/8" mild steel stock for brackets
$90 - custom machined spacers (ie. hubcentric rings for rotors) (price is shop minimum)
$75 - standard blank Cobra rotors from Napa

So yeah...doing it youself is cheaper. The only real issue with the above is that the caliper is moved outboard 3/8", which is going to cause a lot of interference with the wheel for most 240 owners.

Oh, BTW, if the above upgrade with 13" rotors is used in conjunction with z32 rear calipers/rotors, the bias is almost identical to the S14 bias. Calculations can be found on one of Asad's threads on FA.

i'm going to go out on a limb here, so bear with me. If I upgraded to a big brake up front, could I use my old z32 upgrade that I had, in the rear? I know that you can use maxima rears, but if it is not possible, i guess that you can make adapter brackets? My corvette has 4-piston calipers all around, and it works well.

it still cost a lot. 3000gt vr4 rotors cost about 300-400 + 100 for the bracket.

It contains junk yard parts, but of course with rotors, they are inspected and do not go beyond the minimum thickness. I figure that i will get them turned. I just got a pair for $40 shipped for a AWD turbo 96 3000. That greatly reduces the cost of this upgrade.
