s13 sr20det rebuild question

I haven’t had to rebuild an engine before so I just had a few questions before I went through with it.

Currently the motor is nearly all stock. Except the injectors, s15 turbo and maf...among other bolt ons. I plan to have the engine balanced, new seals/rings/barring’s, cylinders honed, head decked, new stock head gasket, and everything checked/cleaned. Perhaps I’m missing something but that is all I really am certain that will be done.

Now how much should I be looking at to pay for this work? I would supply the parts but I would have the shop do the install/removal.

Would anyone say its better just to get a new used engine rather than rebuild this one?

Anything I should think about doing at this time? I will have new head bolts, new oil pump/strainer, timing chain is new(3000 mi), and water pump is new too(3000 mi).

s13 redtop sr20det

Thank you in advance.

I'd go with the rebuild. Talk to some local shops and get them to give you a quote. Everything all tallied up will possibly be around the same price as another motor but you don't always know what you're going to be getting. With doing the rebuild you know that the motor is like new.

Thats how I felt too. The only good thing about getting another motor is the spare parts. My friend suggested the other motor so I figured I would ask here in case there is something I might not be thinking about that would make a rebuild a much higher cost. Thanks for the responce.
