New toys!!! well sort of...
I just got new rear upper control arms on my coupe so I could dial out some of the tire killing camber I was having. I installed them relatively easily. Here are some pics of the car with them on... My Aero bumper should be painted this week... I will update when its on.
Here in the backround you can see a little of what hurricane Charley did to us!!! Oh and I got another bike.... this ones definitely the fastest thing I have ever ridden or driven, period. So far my balls have carried me to an indicated 186mph with room for a little more... once I get leathers I am going to go for the 12,500rpm rev limit and see just how fast she will go. ![]()

The difference with this car and your last was that now you're building an SR now isn't it? I forgot and was just curious as to why not just build up the engine outside the car and then swap it into the green one you had. They're both S13's w/ silvia conversions so I'm just lost as to why you didn't stay with the same green shell. Turtle power.

thx247- Yea your right... they wouldnt make a difference but they are a hell of a confidence booster.
240stilo- I get bored with the cars actually... and the other car had an sr as well, i just kinda grow out of them. Or I will get new ideas along the way and instead of changing the car sinking more money into it, I sell it, recoup my investment, or make a profit, and get to start all over again. Hell, anticipation of the completed car is sometimes more fun then actually having it to drive. Steeles- The bike is an 03 Yamaha R1

Nice bike, an 02-03 R1 will prolly be my next. Unless i hold out for KTMs new 990 Duke next fall.
As for the top speed......you nailed it when you said "indicated". Take a GPS along next time. Though completely stretched out, w/ bolt ons the bike will probably GPS in upper 180s.

I dunno in G's, but i've ridden an R1. You can slow down from 140mph confidently and quickly with 2 fingers using only the front brakes with your other hand off the handlebar.

R1s easily have strong enough front brakes to snatch the ass end off the ground at 100+mph

Bikes wiegh less though and you can manually control brake bias ..right hand front brake, right foot rear brake. Also a regular street bike tire compares to a hoosier for cars. They only last about 2500 miles and they get really sticky. Also the suspension is pretty trick on a stock street bike. Adjustable shocks & spring preload. Lightweight vehicle, really short brake lines, good fluid, a high tech braking system, good pads and rotors and calipers adds up to fast, efficient, and responsive braking with minimal fade.

Weight isn't an issue when it comes to stopping. Weight and inertia are directly related, so to stop in the same distance a car just needs more braking power than a bike does stopping in the same distance. The only variable between a properly setup car and a properly setup bike is surface area on the tire, and the car just wins. Now maybe in general most sport bikes are more "setup" than your typical car, but unless most sport bikes can brake over 1g, you're looking at almost a quarter mile to stop from 180mph.
http://www.sportrider.com/ride/146_9510_rss/ has the only article I've seen on braking distances. That bike (whatever it is) can out brake my 240 by 10 feet from 60mph. Anyone have any data on how hard a bike can stop? |

A bikes braking system will handle more abuse? I dunno...probably not. It uses the same components as a cars brakes, same materials etc so it should be limited by the same factors that limit a car. Until we see some numbers we won't know if a bike can stop as well as a car.
