How would you spend $4000??
Ok, now this is pretty simple. Lets say you have $4000 to spend on a 240 and performance parts, how would you spend it?
The conditions: you need to save $400 for paint supplies. Type away... |

i'd give half of it to west to allow me to flame as many people i wanted to without being banned. ya know, like the people that make the same generic threads time and time again.
i think 2K woudl butter him up something fierce. oh yeah, i'd spend the rest on the biggest body kit with the widest rims and smallest tires and an aluminum wing that would rival equipment on a 747. |

hmm the best coilovers
the biggest wheels and grippiest tires the biggest brakes and most $$ pads then realize I still suck at driving, and then spend the $ on some track time. |

Autotrader has 2 240s within 300 miles of your town: one that's completely thrashed with no title for $600, and another with no description for $1000. Judging from those prospects, most if not all of that money is going to be used just to get the car into decent shape... Whatever money that's left over, replace whatever you don't like on the car.

jeez, the wheels i want would eat up 4K by themselves. i could drop that much on suspension and still not be done. christ, then the motor.
i think the general concensus is that 4 grand isn't much at all to spend on a car. i could drop 15 grand in parts for the car and still have plenty of stuff i want to do. |

$4000 for a car and parts? Here's how I'd do it:
$1500 for the car (if you are very, very lucky). $2500 for girl, dog food, rent, books, and gas. Gotta prioritize :P

![]() If I was given $4,000 to spend on a 240SX (let's say my 1990 white fastback)..
hrm.. let's see.. Car alarm w/ pager system - $350 Intake manifold gasket (KA24E) -$15 ?? Carb cleaner (for cleaning all my vacuum/emission related hoses; IACV-Air Regulator, IACV-Auxiliary something, IAA, AIV, etc) -$2.50 Surface Rust Cleaner - $8 Valve Cover Gasket and Front Main Seal (KA24E) -$45 Coolant Reservoir Tank -$20 Coolant Temperature Sensor, Thermostat (KA24E) -$50 Spark plugs - $10 4 new fuel injectors (KA24E) - $190 ?? (kinda sketchy on this one. lots of money ![]() New battery (no INTERSTATE...) -$150 at cosco! Sparco pedal set (that has all the hardware included, unlike that $15 set i bought :*( - $29 picked up from irvine HQ Used driveshaft from somebody (good condition) for KA24E NON-ABS -$80 Balancing driveshaft -$35?? OEM 240SX VLSD package - $250 Used springs (1.5'' drop)/used adjustable shocks (from somebody moving up to coilovers) - $200 Ebay Front/Rear strut tower bars -$35 Stock Sway bars - $0 ![]() Camber kit - $150 ?? i forget Tension Rods - $200 15/16x7'' 4/114.3 RWD offset Wheels from Ebay (some nice type. I.E. I saw some Stern 16x7 wheels of a hachi (good offset for 240), gunmetal color with polished lip for $450 + shipping one day one Ebay, before i bought the car) - $550 Dunlop FM901 tires - $190 Yellow foglights - $45 MANDATORY CONDITION: $400 for paint supplies (painting my car white pearl since it's already white) I have already spent basically $3,000 on the car so far (in this scenario).. the rest will be saved for emergency situations.. $1,000 in your bank account feels good (For an 18 year old). That's my $4,000. P.S. If you're wondering what's next.. I drive this car (with the modifications i have mentioned) until the KA blows or fucks up so bad that it needs a repair that costs a lot of money. When the KA blows, or gets too weak for canyon driving (meaning weaker than normal.. meaning something is wrong).. SR20DE (N/A) swap $950-$1000 When I am in the need for harder suspension as I progress.. the following will come.. Tanabe SUSTEC SS Type II Coilover System (8kg/6kg F/R spring rate, with dampening adjustability) $1,050 OR K-Sport Coilover Group Buy (that already passed before i got the car ;( ) $600 (same spring rates) |

here's my mod list.
SPL Coilovers 1100 shipped SPL tension rods ~170 shipped Kaaz or tomei lsd 1000 shipped and installed Kirkey racing seat 400 Autopower race roll bar 300 poly bushing kit 300 Alignment 100 bucks. If you have to pay anyone to install anything besides the lsd you are wasting money. Also assuming your car is in good condition so you dont have to dish out money for repairs. Also assuming you have the car already. I would use second hand tires for the first 6 months then move on to better ones.
