KA24DET intercooler question

I want to put a fmic on my 240, but i don't want to relocate my batter, i found this intercooler which is for a pathfinder, and was wondering if it's compatible with the car, given slight modifications will have to be made. has anyone tried it? any success??

You can fit a miata battery sideways in the battery tray and retain the stock cables, if you prefer.

Or just run the piping around it, though I haven't seen an off-the-shelf kit that runs the piping and lets you retain the stock-sized battery.

$500 for a knockoff intercooler? Just buy one off of enjukuracing.com a bit less and good fitment.

Amazon not the best place to get car parts.

I had a jgs ic piping for my ka-t. Also didnt want to relocate the battery so i bought a miata battery with a 8 year warranty. Turn it sideways and cut a hole in the battery tray. The volts are the same but the amprage is different. With my viper alarm on, the car dies after 2 weeks of not being started. Got a free replacement 6 times from autozone. Gotta sr now. And still have the same setup.

If you are only running 5-9psi of boost then I would just go with a side mount. No holes, no cutting, no fabrication, factory location, and one hell of a responsive setup.

AND you get to keep that huge ass battery

Yep and for those who have never tried a side mount- it makes one hell of a difference in response, due to the overall plumbing volume between the engine and the compressor. I would never run a stock KA with any turbo using a large front mount, as there simply isnt enough demand for flow. In other words, the only reason to avoid a side mount is if you are pushing enough air through it to heat it up. And that will not happen if the overall mass of air is low- say 27lb/min (250~rwhp) just like a stock sr20det demands from it's side mount.

Of course somebody always has to come and say "well I had a side mount and it overheated the air on my track car..." again, overall flow, not instantaneous flow. That is, mass per unit time on a daily vs a track car, you will move fewer air molecules through the side mount on a daily driver at any given interval of time- because of stop lights, cruising, etc..

If you are that worried about the temperature of at the intake manifold, install an air temperature gauge

I bought a CXRacing FMIC kit for $210 shipped off of ebay.. It fits great and does what its supposed to, I'm using a motorcycle battery with terminals and cables I made myself though you could use a miata battery like everyone else here said.

i did the expensive thing... bought a Optima battery, and a battery mounting plate, and then mounted it all in the trunk. trimmed my carpet a bit and it looks great, and doesn't move an mm.

setup is identical to this....
