SR20DET Blow-by - Catch Can - etc Question pls help
Hi everyone
This is my first post and my first S14! I just purchased the car and I notice where there would typically be a catch can- there isn't! Just an empty fitting ![]() You'll notice two blue threadings on the right and left. Is it dangerous (or just dirty) to run the car as it is? And am I losing potential HP by not having those gases sans the oil re routed back into the system? Thanks in advanced and again I apologize for possibly asking a stupid question. Yeah um thats bad. Look at a picture of how its supposed to be. How is the little black oem catch can drain hole? Is it wide open as well? How it is now youll have oil shooting on ur manifold. Huge fire hazard. Not sure what fittings those are for but I wouldnt drive it until you get both sides hooked up.

Yeah both those lines should be routed to a catch can. I would not drive the car around like that. Google some photos of the stock setup, and copy that. It looks like whoever you bought the car from removed their setup before they sold you the car.
Since they already converted to a/n fittings you will either have to so the same, or buy another stock valve cover with the stock fittings and go from there. |

The an fittings are nice so if I was you I'd try and find some hose and build it to fit. Get a catch can with the same an fittings and you'll be good to go

Thanks so much guys for the responses! So both of those fittings should be routed to a catch can but what about the blow by? Should it just have an air breather and vented to the air or re routed back into the intake? Is there any benefits to either way?

Don't use any breathers. But one of the lines needs to go to the suction pipe. Aka turbo intake between maf and turbo. That way it evacuates the crankcase at all times

Ok. Now it has a an fitting behind the air intake before the turbo. Is that a bad place to have it routed? Currently I just have it capped off. The maf is on the opposite side on the piping near the intercooler. It is a 300zx maf

The first pic is of the an fitting behind the intake filter the second is the maf by the intercooler and the third is the overhead shot where the pipes go on the maf side

Kind of like this, but obviously yours would come from the existing fittings on the sides, the fitting you have capped currently should be your "vacuum" line from the catch can.
