Okay, I am swapping out a bad AUTO trans.
The input shaft slid out a bit. Now it won't slide back in.
Anyone know how to get it back in place?

The transmission won't mount up to the engine since it now pushes the torque converter out some.

I had the same issue a few years ago. I had to keep stabbing it back in while slowly turning the output shaft with the driveshaft.

Was it in any specific gear position, drive, park, reverse?

I left the transmission in neutral before taking it out.

FIXED!!

For future reference to those that are in the same situation.

I stood the trans up and pulled up and down as I held the teeth of the input shaft while slightly turning it. It went in after like 3 tried.

I opened up my old trans, because I wanted to know exactly why it wasnt going it.

Well, the I other end of the shaft has a gear with teeth on the end that slid into a female slot with teeth. There are many teeth, and the slightest movement will misalign them and won't slip in. If the shaft teeth are pressure up against the female slot teeth, and you attempt to rotate it in, it will just spin the female slot too. That's why you have to pull the shaft up or out while slightly turning so it drops in. Hope that make sense.
