Anyone know what this could possibly be??

This is probably a long shot but I took my valve cover and I found a piece of metal laying next to the intake cam. Engine runs fine, except for a rattle which is why I took the valve cover off, I think it's from the tensioner but I'm not sure, upper guide is removed. So if anybody knows what that could be and any tips on the rattle let me know please.

If the engine runs fine I wouldn't give it too much thought.
It may be well something that's fallen into the head while someone was servicing it and it hasn't affected anything.

I can't figure out what it could be however through process of elimiation...

Is it valve related? Unlikely.
Is it Cam related? Very unlikely.
Is it Valve cover related? Unlikely.
Is it HLA related? Unlikely.
Is it timing related? Very unlikely.

Personally I wouldn't be too concerned.

Do you intend on removing the head in the near future?

No I just plan on replacing the tensioner or the whole timing chain. Thanks for the response, eases my mind a bit haha

What does the back side of that look like? It looks like a retainer keeper to me with what I can see on my phone...can easily remove cams and look at the tops of your retainers to see if any are missing

It's not a keeper because,

A) it's too long.
B) it doesn't look thick enough.
C) it's not going to fold that easily
