what does the SE have that the others don't? I have one of the worst memories you guys could think of...trust me!!! what extra options...etc etc?! pretty stupid question but like I said, I have a really really bad memory, sorry guys. oh yeah, found another 95 240 on autotrader.com that is in OKC (where I'm located) with 112k on it going for $4000. so I may give that man a ring if it's still up for sale.

I went through the same questions. The bottom line is a big ?. All 240's have full power options, 4 wheel disks, and the same motor/tr. With the base, you could not get LSD or ABS in 95. With the SE, you get better suspension (sway bars, stiffer springs(?)), foglights, rear spoiler, front lip, 5 lug alloys, upgraded POS stereo, and opt. ABS/LSD (usually comes as a pair). In my hunting, there was little price difference on trim level, but a lot on the options like mnrf, alloys, and abs (which I never even saw!). That price sounds amazing, but check the car out to make sure it hasn't been wrecked or anything.

but for example I didn't get an SE...I could see put in the sunroof etc. right? but even if I don't get a sunroof, I'm putting one in. it's going to be one of the first things in. where are you located 2k1? I mean that honestly does depend on how much you get it for really. but ####...1 grand? that's all? well I would say you got a pretty good deal, even if you did rebuild or put in another KA...that would still be kinda cheap

I know you can have a manual sunroof installed for a reasonable price, but I hear they're prone to leak. Best get a car with the factory sunroof.

When I bought my '97 new I test drove a fully loaded SE and then I drove the base model coupe. I looked at the price and then test drove again to be sure. I found no difference at all in performance and decided I could do without the sunroof and leather interior and other bs.
Had I realized at the time that the coupe had 4-lug 15 inch wheels instead of 5-lug 16's I may have reconsidered... but probably still woulda went with the coupe. On another note, Ive hear real bad things about installing sunroof after factory. Expensive, leaky, and EXPENSIVE hehe. Not to mention Ive heard they weigh alot so your car will be slower though I am not positive on this. |

you can get a power sunroof that slides ontop of the roof for about $250 without the install i dont know the price for the install
but on the manual sun roof it you have the right person do it and you dont open it for about 4 days after the install it is less likely to leek |

my '90 240sx had an aftermarket power sunroof. It cut down on headroom considerably and leaked. Did I mention it only worked when it felt like it? every two months or so it would work for a couple of days. I cherished it those days. But the factory s/r is much much better on the s14. I don't have ABS but I think I have LSD on my 97 se. the previous owner had the leather interior done after purchase, so I don't have the leather shift knob or steering wheel.
The SE also comes with white face gauges that turn to white on black at night. (gimmicky, but sooooo cool!) |

I have never driven a base model s14. I own a SE. But I have driven in a base s13 model... and it felt slushy compared to mine. But it might be like apples and oranges.

if u dont have abs u dont have an LSD period. and the se compared to the base: all options are available for both cept the abs/lsd combo only available on se... se - stiffer suspension due to the addition of sway bars and harder springs... white faced guages yadda yadda ... im almost 100 % sure of all this info

my friend has a 95 se and i have a 97 base coupe and i dusted him in a race... so maybe the base is lighter... but he has like 150000 miles... and i had like 30000 at the time... i bought my base model 97 240sx with cd player and 15in nissan alloys in 1999 for 16000 big ones... but it only had 18,000 miles on it and looked like it never has seen dirt, rain, snow, sun... old fart owned it.....

Yeah... but that's not a good test. You can't "dust" something that only weighs 80 pounds more than you do IMHO.
There had to have been another factor... like mileage, or an engine problem. Or possibly he has a standard tranny and just can't drive. -Jeff |

I owned the '91 SE hardtop before my current car, and a friend has a non-SE from the same year. I'm pretty sure the only difference is in trim stuff. I had power everything, a moonroof, a nicer set of rims, etc, etc - but they were all convenience or appearance driven. Both cars appeared the same mechanically.
I'm always a big fan of getting the higher trim model; they generally only cost a little bit extra, and are usually quite worth it. If I had the choice between a fully-loaded older car, or a newer but stripped car, I'd always pick the former. |

I believe that the SE model is the only one with a limited slip differential. Anybody know anything different?
I bought my 96 SE for $7400 in great shape. I love it. |

MY SE doesn't have an ABS and an LSD <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>. But it has power windows, power locks (that don't power-close but do power-open <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>, power sunroof, and it's really powerful and I love it) <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
